Mayhem is dance-pop, disco, funky - she can do it well. The first single Disease was bizarre in sound, that was not safe.

I feel like she’s not experimental anymore….she hasn’t done anything that wowed me in the sense of thinking “I never saw something like this before” since maybe ARTPOP era ?

But Disease is experimental and heavy. It has a interesting structure. 

Abracadabra has this opera style. 

I don't think ARTPOP was experimental, except for a few exceptions like Venus and Aura.  Also experimental doesn't automatically mean good either.

The only time she took risks sonically and production wise were on ARTPOP and some elements of BTW. 

She's always been quite surface level with her avant-garde tendencies. We got close to it with ARTPOP, finally, but we all know how that went down. 

I honestly think she is just starting to become like Taylor Swift now, cares more about capital gain than she does about art, very apolitical, only says things when it benefits her public image to avoid threatening her empire shes built. 

It could change, she could be more of a risk-taker in the future, but I'm not holding my breath. 
I've been slowly losing respect for her over the past year. (please don't reply with hate, it genuinely feels like grief lol) and I think my little monster membership card expired a while ago, its sad.
I bought the fame on cd when it first came out, I just don't like how she is anymore and think the quality of her work has regressed.
I tried listening to MAYHEM last week and couldn't get through it, to think I lined up to see her for 12 hours not even a year ago. Crazy.

It's probably 'cause she doesn't have a strong stance on the topic other than "genocide is bad, peace and love should be the way forward".

I doubt she's sat and thought about the ins and outs of a solution to the crisis and I doubt even further that she'd ever voice an opinion because she knows she isn't opinionated or educated enough to.

She loves Israel and the Israeli people. She also loves Palestine and the Palestinian people. She's a "love, peace, and chicken grease" kind of girl that really only takes specific political stances on domestic issues and even then it's usually targeted activism for the queer community or women.

Israel commiting a genocide is so far outside her bag.

I definitely understand the disappointment on Gaga's politics, won't say much on that.

But regarding the music, this narrative that Mayhem is "safe" is kinda whatever to me because not only is it one of her best, it also explores sounds she never delved into. Gaga is a pop artist through and through, and as always been, yeah maybe she will someday put out more experimental work, but I don't get people who have been fans of her for decades and still somehow expect her to be Bjork because she wore a meat dress once. I think Mayhem should be celebrated as a return to form, she might never do experimental in the future, but if she does, she could never get there without going through Mayhem first. It really is a beautifull moment in her discography after Joanne and Chromatica, for different reasons, made it feel like she'd lost herself.

It's definitely heavy for pop music, but I'd definitely argue about it being experiemental. She's not playing with genres or sounds that are in any way a new contribution to industrial-dance pop or reinventing the wheel.
At best, its new for a mainstream pop girl to do it. 
As for its structure it's - intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, post-chorus in place of bridge, chorus, post-chorus. Doesn't really break song writing conventions imo despite it being an amazing song.

'Cause I've never thought of Gaga as someone who reinvents the wheel with her music, just an artist that does what she does better than anyone else conceivably could.

If she came up in here with some drunk Bjork sounding stuff idk how I'd feel
