Gaga has become too safe.

Music wise (production, melodies, sounds, whatever), I wouldn't say she's become safe. Lyrically? Hell, yes. It's not something that actually bothers me for now but I think I'll eventually want her to say deeper things about life. For instance, MAYHEM is my favorite album from her and I consider she really delivered her magnum opus to date but lyrics wise she didn't tell us nothing we already heard – again not a flaw, cause I take MAYHEM for what it is (and that's that I don't think she pretended to talk about complex things with this one). But if I'm being honest, I'd be somehow disappointed if she didn't go to deeper concepts (universal concepts everyone can relate to, not personal stuff) when she reaches her 50s or 60s

doing a jazz album after an early hyperpop EDM album, then following the jazz album up with a country cross over, and then doing a stripped down soundtrack, after her entire initial persona was built on dance pop?

Playing around in well established genres isn't taking musical risks. It can be risky from a career management standpoint, but it totally depends on what the genre jumps are.

And lets be clear, the jump to jazz followed by Joanne and ASIB was the dictionary definition of career repair. Adult contemporary genres are fundamentally safe and risk averse. None of the jazz albums were dangerous territory, they were by the book collaborations with a living legend of the format.

to go from born this way, to ARTPOP, to cheek to cheek, to joanne is some of the craziest artistry shifts we seen in anyone. i truly believe living peacefully and safely in malibu has allowed her to relax more and engage in the hollywood of it all. there is less "shock" and more "oh ok!"

Image shifts to repair PR damage aren't taking risks.

The switch to safe adult contemporary genres was a blatant image management move to prevent a complete career collapse with the GP after the negative reactions to various stunts in the ARTPOP era.

Has anyone else released Disease or Abracadabra-esque type of singles lately. Because if it's been being safe, I'd like all the industry to push that safe energy

I mean the closest pop girls have gotten to similar sounds are the electroclash outputs of Slayyyter.

But if we move out of pop girl territory, we have output by Nine Inch Noize. I'd argue Sleep Token & Electric Callboy are also examples of mixing industrial/rock/techno/pop in ways similar to Gaga on Disease/Abracadabra.

I think that a bunch of songs on MAYHEM, particularly Disease and Abracadabra which were singles, were not musically safe.

Has she become too damn safe in her personality and the things she says and posts though? Absolutely.

Agreed. I even get why she's become that way. Regardless of that, it's not like I expect her to release an American Life someday, but idk... talk about deeper things mama

Like 2 tours in a row we've had looks inspired by her hip surgery. All great pieces of fashion, all symbolic and part demonic or part gore. But like...its not risky for Gaga to be dressed exotically performing on operating tables anymore lol

Which is something that she has earned by taking risks in the first place.

Calling Gaga safe is just out of place, nothing about Mayhem was safe.

I think the reaction the fanbase gave after we found out it wasn't going to be dark pop after all is an example of that.

Also side note I am still kind of mad she has not rebuked the Zionist allegations (I don’t think she is) but how hard is it for her to say Free Palestine and **** ICE? And why is the excuse always “it doesn’t matter if she does or not”. I was under the assumption Lady Gaga was a bold person who said things because they were right, not because they were popular.

If Gaga is actively being an activist, but remains silent in Palestine, I would be upset. But it doesnt seem like she wants to get involved in activism anymore, atleast for now. We dont know why, but it doesnt matter, I think thats personal and it could be effecting her mental health at the moment for example. I dont like it but I also dont hold it against her.

Maybe after almost 4 years of silence on the topic, get the hint sis

Michael jewish, zionist, with connections to Israel.

She’s working with Israelis and Zionist, from fashion designers to musicians and businessmen.

The key people of Interscope are zionists so every time  u stream her music u give them money

Apple helped Israel in the war, donated to the IDF, recently opened new pffices there and promoted a zionist to a key role at the company.. all your streams of Mayhem Requiem went to zionist.

She’s not gonna free Palestine anytime soon.

Which is what I was saying. You've just repeated me near verbatim.

This is just weak.

Sneaky Oliver

I think the feeling that she’s playing safe comes from the fact that Mayhem is reminiscent of her old sound but that was done on purpose and not because she ran out of ideas

Not gonna lie, I would be pretty happy if I got another mayhem from her but I think she will explore new sounds

I hope she takes a break now and she will eventually come back super inspired again!

Hate to say it cause I love her but has it come to your mind that she won't say such a thing because she's got the standard mindset of "both sides did wrong"? Cause she's a liberal, after all. Or may be she's got conflicts of interest cause she might be just and kind and well-spoken and peaceful but she's also a very rich woman connecting with even more powerful people every day. Not saying she's a proper zionist but I don't think she even considers she's got to speak about it

Y’all need to stop acting like Gaga was ever on some experimental, avant-garde music level. She’s never been that unsafe or experimental when it comes to her music (ARTPOP was basic EDM)

Gaga’s image was weird. Her fashion was weird. Her performances were weird. But the actual music was usually very radio friendly, commercial, accessible, and relatively safe. And arguably, that contrast is exactly what made her so successful , she packaged genuinely bizarre, provocative visuals around music that was conventional and catchy enough for mass audiences

That’s always been the disconnect with Gaga: the music rarely reflected just how bizarre and transgressive she presented herself as being

And whenever she moves away from glossy electropop for gays, we get Joanne, the jazz records, or Joker stuff that sounds like upscale soccer mom music... :billie:

I think this is actually insulting to Gaga. She definitely has taken musical risks.

dude when she doesnt make electropop for gay clubs she makes jazz and soccer mom and boomer music like joanne and that tony bennett album , how is that musically risky?
