LGAte 854
I think I’ve noticed recently that people eat up certain things about Gaga because she is at that point in her career where it worked out and now everybody loves her. But interestingly, I think it has landed her in actual safe artistic purgatory. I actually hope LG8 sounds absolutely nothing like Mayhem. I still want it to be a pop record but I think some monsters on here would have Gaga continue to make “dark pop” for the rest of her career and I just feel like that is literally the anti-thesis of who she is. at a certain point you can talk about being enigmatic until you beat it dead but what is she actually saying that we aren’t hearing every other pop star say? She has a particularly unique life and it feels like we are starting to land in this comfortable zone that is actually stifling her creativity. she can ultimately make whatever tf she wants but it doesn’t mean it’s brilliant because it’s her. She still should earn it. And I don’t want her to become an automatic winner. I want her to be impressive again. Not because I want her drained…but because I believe she can be that creative and it’s ****ing weird to see that part of her go for commercialization and to be a critiques darling. 2 2
LGAte 854
Also side note I am still kind of mad she has not rebuked the Zionist allegations (I don’t think she is) but how hard is it for her to say Free Palestine and **** ICE? And why is the excuse always “it doesn’t matter if she does or not”. I was under the assumption Lady Gaga was a bold person who said things because they were right, not because they were popular.
NewUsername 11,766
well, yes and no, because I can't imagine any other pop star making songs like Disease and Abracadabra 21 minutes ago, LGAte said: but what is she actually saying that we aren’t hearing every other pop star say? 4

Bronco 25,417
I don't think she's become musically safe tbh. She's never been a massive risk taker musically. Its just that her sound was a bit more "new" than others and now the world has caught up. The biggest risks she ever took were fashion based and for the most part the risks relied on shock factor. That only works for so long before it turns into the expected & now Gaga is still turning out avant garde haute couture looks but its less risky primarily because we expect it. Like 2 tours in a row we've had looks inspired by her hip surgery. All great pieces of fashion, all symbolic and part demonic or part gore. But like...its not risky for Gaga to be dressed exotically performing on operating tables anymore lol The gays know how to party 8
Head Empty 27,004
31 minutes ago, LGAte said: hard is it for her to say Free Palestine and **** ICE It could be a matter of safety. For a large portion of her career she had a huge target on her back, and I'm sure she still faces death threats and/or stalkers. That's why she almost backed out of singing at Biden's inauguration. Let's also not forget her dog walker was shot and her dogs kidnapped. She has also shared several times how she struggles with PTSD and depression, including at least one manic episode. It makes sense that she wants to protect her peace. I'm not saying it's the right or wrong choice for her to lay low on certain topics, but I definitely see valid personal reasons for her to do so.

She definitely has taken musical risks. doing a jazz album after an early hyperpop EDM album, then following the jazz album up with a country cross over, and then doing a stripped down soundtrack, after her entire initial persona was built on dance pop?

monketsharona 90,150
Has anyone else released Disease or Abracadabra-esque type of singles lately. Because if it's been being safe, I'd like all the industry to push that safe energy

elijahfan 27,490
Well, at the beginning of her career I remember thinking her visual output was much edgier than her actual music. Then the music really caught up with the image with TFM and that’s when I truly sold my soul. That being said, there’s no denying Gaga is a genius songwriter and vocalist, but I agree with the idea her music is definitely not as edgy as some people make it out to be. It’s like she’s tempted to go super left field by approaching people like SOPHIE or Boyz Noize, but then gets cold feet. Maybe one day we’ll get a truly experimental record, but I kinda doubt it — she does care a bit too much about commercial success and awards I’m afraid. On the one hand I feel this and wish she would, on the other I recognize that she's still recovering from the trauma and turmoil of her life from 2013-2020. When she tweeted in 2019 "no one asked me if I wanted to be a popstar", that encapsulated her restraint in endorsing particular social issues nowadays. The years of bashing and hate from critics took a toll, and she doesn't want to be the face of controversy anymore. She's doing it for her own sake. She can't afford to risk her health to open the floodgates to right-wing agitators like she used to Edited 2 hours ago by ALonelyNight
