The Cure was not considered a single at the time? but also, I guess it's okay - considering that Bloody Mary became a single many years later after the release

Bronco 25,424 Posted yesterday at 10:49 AM Share Posted yesterday at 10:49 AM Ngl if it wasn't for her moving between 4 eras so quickly in the first 5 years, I definitely think some of those earlier tracks would have got videos even just a tour montage/tour performance videos which tended to be used to end an era. Like by the time the HBO Monster Ball film dropped, BTW was already on the setlist and Judas was just about to drop. Otherwise we'd have definitely got a tour performance music video for a TF/TFM track - like if we didn't have the BTW era starting I think she'd have pushed for a Monster single release to end the era. And if they had done the same for ARTPOP, Gypsy was right there. The gays know how to party
Kayioshka 3,362 Posted yesterday at 10:55 AM Share Posted yesterday at 10:55 AM I almost voted for Dance in the Dark and I'm surprised to see it’s the most voted one... I guess that Venus also deserved a full music video for it’s own but it’s a part the ARTPOP film video. Probably under substances... Bronco 25,424 Posted yesterday at 11:17 AM Share Posted yesterday at 11:17 AM I voted for ScheiBe in the poll but this is what id pick for each album if given free rein tbh The Fame - The Fame (the era would have benefitted from having a music video directly tied to the whole Candy Warhol concept) The Fame Monster - Monster (Don't disagree with Bad Romance being the lead for obvious reasons, but in a world without it Monster had the perfect intro for a lead single for the era). Born This Way - ScheiBe (this would have been the perfect transition single between TFM and BTW) ARTPOP - VENUS Joanne - Sinner's Prayer (maybe its recency bias because country is "cool" again, but this was a missed single opportunity) Chromatica - Replay (the obvious pick tbh) MAYHEM - Shadow Of A Man (would have been cunty as **** after the JFAD flop if the lead single was this with a mv where Harley is breaking free of the Joker's shadow as a mirror for Gaga breaking free from JFAD's shadow) The gays know how to party

Cherry Blues 358 Posted yesterday at 12:00 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:00 PM Dance In The Dark is so good, but it's a okay it is a hidden eurodance-inspired pearl. Replay and Babylon are very good songs. Babylon has so good lyrics (missed that good lyrics since The Fame Monster) and the Saxophon is insane. Replay has an interesting atmosphere - it also deserves a video. I could mention Heavy Metal Lover and Government Hooker - but it's okay, some songs are just for fanbase and music lovers.
Apec 289 Posted yesterday at 12:06 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:06 PM (edited) From a 2026 perspective: I don't know why, since Bloody Mary is one of my absolute favorites by her (well, one of many but it's cream of the crop imo) and not that I wouldn't trust her to create an abstract Gothic masterpiece but... I associate it with so many random images after 15 years of listening, and of many historically betrayed women - definitely not just literally Queen "Bloody" Mary, who followed Henry VIII - but a whole string of them, many who weren't violent at all but got that particular nickname or similarly awful associations that are still around in history books, theology (Mary Magdalene or even Mary, mother of Jesus - while no overt betrayal, feelings are a different matter of course and we all know which label the Roman Catholic church wanted to put on the former figure) or legend, mostly through a breach of trust initiated by a man they put their faith in. Whether through what they thought was true love or even just being cared for - Typhoid Mary to name just one example of the latter. The Michelangelo line should be front and center, as that's kind of its loose feminist thesis. We are not background characters here to cry prettily when you need us to, or to be reduced to tragic figures of circumstance, our complexity is just as impenetrable as any man's, as is the depth of our love and desire. There's even a nod, to me, that while museums all over the world feature more female subjects than male ones on the whole (especially Baroque up until Modern schools of paintings and sculptures) the Guilds and then the Academies refused women's entry for so many centuries thus so much brilliance has been lost - more betrayal. But the latter's just me. "And when you're gone/I'll tell them my religion's you" and repeating "When you're gone/I'll still be Bloody Mary" has so many meanings...and with the completely abstract imagery floating in my head it'd be weird to see this absolute gem get a definitive "look" or "story" so to speak. The operatic bits are heavenly... I'd for once like to keep the mystery. DITD I think has had its time, I don't think she'd want to make it now, frankly. I would've LOVED it after Alejandro though, or rather before because Alejandro thematically flows into BTW quite well (MV-wise). I loved her playing it accoustically so much at the Mayhem Ball. Maybe VIY (although - blasphemy - I sorta prefer Requiem VIY). Okay, VIY since it's the most recent and I'd want to know how she'd create a moving, conceptual canvas for that one, what's going on even more under the surface/symbolically and how she sees this as a MV, seeing as she is the queen of showing even more hidden depths through music + imagery. ETA: Hadn't seen Scheiße. Back then, definitely. After her hip fracturing/delicate membrane between leg muscle and hip tore and the latter's infection might've set her fibromyalgia in motion (most cases of fibro lie in wait until certain deep inflammation or infection inside the body - which surgery on the delicate membrane in question definitely causes a lot). I remember her talking about non-hip related pain in an interview right before ARTPOP dropped. Sorry, I've read a lot about fibromyalgia because my dearest family member has it. So after that happened at the BTWB, let's keep Scheiße a fan-favorite deep cut, shall we? She's already performing it on some of her tours (JWT, MBT). /ETA If we went back in time though, DITD, and Venus. 9 hours ago, Economy said: Wait. When was it a single tho? In 2022 they made it an official single in France after all the Wednesday brouhaha, eleven years after release, then at the end of the year Interscope sent it to US radio stations, making it the sixth single off of BTW.
