an immigrant can't integrate into the new society so easily, especially when they are coming from a totally different culture, environment and language, even the climate is different.

Ukrainians are white Europeans, they don't face racism, while immigrants from ME and Africa are facing racism every single day.

In a situation where an employer would have to choose between a freshly entered Ukrainian or an immigrant from the ME who lives in your country for 10 years, the employer would choose to hire the Ukrainian.

It's easy to say that they don't want to work and to call them in a derogatory term, but people like you are the problem why these immigrants are facing difficulties in integrating into the new country and new society.

I'm not buying it. I have seen some great examples of people from ME who put in the effort and did well. So you can if you want to, but many don't even bother to put an effort to learn the language. In Sweden we have a course to learn Swedish that is free of charge for immigrants. Still many don't bother to learn even efter 10+ years here.

The problem comes from the left - the soft bigotry of low expectations.

How long time do you think it's fair?

We have Ukrainians who came here in 2022 who are adapting, learning the language and working. Why can't people from Africa or ME who came here 2010-2015 do the same?

In Spain, we have tens of thousands of European expats and “digital nomads” who reside in Spain seasonally turning neighborhoods into colonies, reshaping traditional local businesses, and systematically driving up housing prices for local residents, all while eroding the social fabric. At the same time, they insist that Spain is incredibly fun, offers an amazing quality of life, and is remarkably cheap. Yet many continue paying taxes in their home countries, never learn a single word in spanish appart from “cerveza”, and enjoy all the tax benefits of living here under special arrangements, behaving like modern-day feudal bosses.

Give me a million Moroccans merging into our society, working with us, building businesses, and raising their families here. Any time.

I think Europeans who do that are just as bad, honestly. I only singled out people from outside Europe in this case because it's the only group of people we have problems with in Sweden, but I understand you are experiencing it differently with other Europeans in Spain.

Personally I really value the expression "when in Rome, do as the Romans do".
When I'm visiting other countries or aiming to live in another country I always do my best to learn common greetings and phrases in their language and educate myself on their traditions and cultures out of respect for the country and its people. That's why I think it's so sad and bothering when I see that other people aren't making the same effort and instead showing nothing but disrespect to the country in question.

I previously mentioned how Norway has an assimilation program to help immigrants assimilate into Norwegian culture. The program is actually very useful and other countries should adapt it. The program encourages immigrants to take language, history, life skills classes, to learn proper social interaction with natural born citizens, it teaches work skills, work interaction skills, etc. As someone living in Canada and the immense amount of Indian immigrants for example, I think such a program would be extremely beneficial for them, to learn Canadian values, life skills, communication skills, language, etc. Why? Because in the workplace they can be extremely prone to nepotism that is characteristic of their own country, only hiring fellow immigrants, family or friends who have come over to Canada, they don't want to speak English in front of Canadian workers, it's especially alienating when there are Indian managers and staff speaking in their own language excluding the Canadians in the room from know what they're talking about. They also have an immense air of arrogance and superiority that needs to be brought down several notches. Immigrants from other countries don't show such unwillingness to adapt to Canadian culture and embracing of our values and habits.

That is Islamophobia! Why would hundreds of thousands of military-age Muslim men be a ‘punishment’ or a danger to a country? They are just refugees seeking a better life!

Furthermore, Spain needs to start doing what they preach to Israel, and give up Ceuta and Melilla, which belong to Morocco. There’s no justification for a European country to have settler colonies in Africa in 2026.

I'm all for seeking a better life, but seek it legally, not by doing this. Not by storming across a border. And then also when in the country, show respect to existing citizens.

"Comes from the left"? I disagree. In Canada for example, our Liberal government starting back towards the end of Justin Trudeau's time as PM, implemented a tightening of immigration policies to decrease the amount of immigrants. Who was it that complained about this? Conservative provincial leaders, in Ontario, Saskatchewan and even Alberta. Saskatchewan's conservative premier leader of a party that has been in power for 19 years, wants thousands more immigrants including low skilled uneducated ones to fill low paying jobs, he wants 25% of the thousands of additional immigrants he wants in the province to work retail, fastfood, hospitality, etc. Alberta's oil industry is made up over 40% immigrants, the new pipeline Alberta's conservative premier along with Ontario's conservative premier want built will take thousands of workers, instead of Canadians, these will be immigrants hired to do the work. Since covid, it's been conservative leadership calling for more immigrants. Universities are also complaining about tightening immigration policies, saying that  tighter policies causes a loss of income for universities, so they want more immigrant students, unskilled young Indians for example, who then come and are hired in low paying jobs instead of Canadians. The Liberal government was just scapegoated by conservatives to cover up the issue they created at provincial levels.

I love users who can keep track with the amount of years thousands of inmigrants have been in their country and doesnt know how to speak their language yet they're sure they're getting all the benefits possible :ladyhaha:

I think viewing it as a task with a deadline oversimplifies it. We really have the appreciate the complexity and trauma at play and ultimately it's a problem that's only solved by compassion. As much as you think being critical pushes people to 'solve' the problem, it actually entrenches the problem. We need solutions that work and they only come into being through willingness to be compassionate and understanding.

Who are you claiming is taking advantage of the welfare system and in what way? Because, as far as I can see, asylum seekers only get limited access to welfare benefits in Sweden while their claims are being processed. As far as refugees are concerned, that issue does seemed to be problematic for Sweden because many refugees don’t speak the language when they arrive, so consequently, opportunities are fairly low. However, the data shows that as they learn the language, employment rises (usually within the first 5 years of residence), so acting as if refugees are loafers and not folks actively trying to assimilate doesn’t appear to be accurate either.

I live in Sweden and I can tell you over the past 15 years, I have met so many refugees from Africa/ME, even people how have moved here for work from India, the US etc and most of them have told me to my face that they dont give a rats ass about learning the language, and some of these people have been here 10 f*cking years. I truly loathe them.

Why did Spain allow this?

We in fact did not allow this. Most of them have already returned to Morocco, a day after the crisis happened (a very good handling of the situation, having in mind near 60 thousand people came in and most of them are gone within 24hrs). What did you expect our government to do? To have soldiers prepared at line to shoot them in the head the moment they stepped a foot in? I'm proud of living in a country with a real democracy where human rights matter — that may be shocking to some, though
