Life of a showgirl was also really misleading, youd expect some jazzy big band monents but we got chicken with soggy rice Harlequin also made no sense in a way.. And a lot of Madonna albums I feel like don't really match the sonic with image.. Hard candy, American life, Rebel heart.. nothing to do with the sound in a way. The pretty reckless with Who you selling for also doesn't match the emotional complexity of the record. Kylie and the Tension covers.. Idk I don't feel like they matched the sound. Also a lot of rock and metal artists don't really match their sonics with the album. The colours worked well with how jarring the production is, but I wish she did something diff for it, because the themes themselves don't lend them to such a military or political visual language as they are introspective and poetic. I mean Madonna is fundamentally a socialist and given her age and the political eras she grew up in, I don't think the Che Guevara imagery seems that juxtaposed to what she was saying. Especially with the context of her saying this less than a year after 9/11. And like yeah all the songs are told through the personal lense. But that massively fits in with the practice of 2nd wave feminism which is what she came of age with. The title track is a massive critique of the American dream. Hollywood is a critique of the superficial nature of american entertainment. I'm So Stupid is effectively a conclusion to the opening political lecture. Love Profusion is considerably less political than its precedin tracks, but its verses juxtaposed with the choruses are designed to unite the political thoughts shared with Madonna's love life and effectively having a safe space within the world she is against. But does disease fit the rest of the album it’s on? the album is only mayhem in the sense that it’s a compilation of random songs she made over the last 6 years or so and no cohesion or reoccurring theme.
