I don’t like any song so far

Would you enjoy them more if this was an upcoming pop album with a totally new title, not CONFESSIONS II?

If the album was called Love Sensation, Danceteria, etc, for example?

Genuinely curious, because I find myself enjoying each song a bit more when I pretend they are from a brand new (non-sequel) pop record from Madonna

Somewhat OT, but: I was initially turned off by the sequel branding too, but it occurred to me that the ethos of the original Confessions is basically the ethos of most of her career. The title was never really confined to that one album anyway, so what difference does it make if she explicitly riffs on an idea she’s already been exploring for almost 40 years?

I think the Confessions 2 brand works well for this album because it’s Stuart Price. If they had called this any other name we’d see a lot of “they should’ve called this Confessions 2!!”

It irks that I can't find a photo of the scene, let alone a clip, but I will never forget the way you murdered your husband by locking him inside a car with bees 🚙🐝

So camp, so clever, so diabolical

I agree that the COADF title transcends any one album of hers... but at the same time, sequel albums still feel gimmick-y to me (if only in title alone... & even if the new record feels like a worthy continuation).

But then again, pretty much every artist is relying on some kind of gimmick to cut through the noise/earn a spot on a chart rn, so why can’t Madonna?  & she’s always been self-referential, deservedly so

...but for some reason in this instance, relying on the “legacy” of a past album/her past cultural dominance feels beneath her, imo

If she truly has nothing left to prove as MADONNA, just let this new music speak for itself without any nostalgic winking

I feel like all her albums since MDNA are nostalgic winking)

but also - guys you’re overthinking it! Confessions II is an iconic title! Great idea to do a sequel to one of her signature album - and the music of Confessions is somewhat “easy” to repeat (unlike Ray Of Light, or Erotica).

I personally love the nostalgic aspect, plus all visuals and branding

I suppose if any artist sticks around long enough, this is bound to happen

I like a lot of the visuals too

But I'm sorry, the grindr photo not being the main album cover is criminal

If you're going to do a legacy/sequel album- in the 2020s no less- at least have enough faith in your fanbase/the GP to know what the artwork represents on its own, without any text slapped on

I feel like its less about her wanting to prove anything and more her kind of making a deliberate nod to her "returning".

The fact that it’s called Confessions II doesn’t help, that’s for sure, but even without that, I’m not feeling them at all

And I really enjoyed Madame X, so I guess it plays a role as well, I just expected more
