It's not just due to Elon Musk. Artists nowadays are much more professional and backed by entire social media teams that didn't exist back in the day. Now it's more obvious that there is a team of professionals behind every post or content strategy, so platforms that don't drive direct growth (like Twitter, which is better for organic virality than direct promotion) are being sidelined for alternatives like Instagram, which rely much more heavily on direct engagement. This doesn't mean they don't promote things on Twitter, they just use an indirect approach I think.

I have noticed this slowly over time too and it is very sad, YouTube changed  with it being less about the whole "broadcast yourself" idea that it started as and now with big corporations and traditional TV like late night talk show hosts kind of taking over. There are still big Youtubers of course like Mr Beast and Pewdiepie but it has become much more corporate and it didn't help when youtubers who got big through that platform moved on and abandoned it to be more like traditional TV hosts or being a more mainline celebrity like Lilly Singh, Emma Chamberlin and Liza Koshy. Instagram and Youtubes interfaces being... what they are now also doesn't help they are largely unusable (especially Instagram). I also really miss when the internet was more free and people didn't care as much about what people would say about them because now people are expected to basically be PR trained like celebrities and never say anything "wrong", it's very sad.

She was also pretty obviously trolling throughout that whole era. She was in talks to do a Fortnite collab and then tweets “What’s Fortnite,” like we thought she was being serious?

she probably did try to handle it and resorted to blasting him to the public as a last resort, the freak was literally stalking her

I'm almost always here for Katy lashings but in retrospect this one was such a reach . There were far better examples of Katy copying her that she could have called out if she wanted to. But it also made Gaga look a bit hypocritical due to her comments she made around that time about how she felt unfairly vilified by Madonna when she accused her of copying her.

What do you mean by “even if” she thought that was real? Why wouldn’t it be? She surely had to have heard about him trying to move into her apartment building for her to react that way.

She didn’t sound hysterical or bizarre to me, she sounded incredibly scared. Imagine what he did leading up to that point for her to blow up like that.

i miss when she interacted with fans during the glory days of social media. now it’s just not worth the trouble when you have bad faith engagement farmers criticising every single thing when you scroll through X.
