If the administration was more capable then I’d think something as major as stopping an election would be feasible. They’re not though. I see more harm in promoting the idea that there won’t be an election because it just sounds sensationalized and dramatic. It distracts from real issues like SCOTUS’s ruling on the 14th amendment happening this week. I get that there are moments when complacency and lack of foresight has been an issue for people in this country but jumping to “there won’t be an election” is the equivalent to the right saying “socialism is coming to destroy this country.”

Okay, you read the comment you responded to as a definite "they're gonna do it" and I read it as the sentiment behind it being more of "they're gonna pull something messy". Understood

@Ladle Ghoulash tagging you in this too in case it clears up where I was coming from

Kamala Harris is holding long meetings with left leaning progressives and pro-Palestinian activists and calling Mamdani.

I know that silk press is gonna be NYASTYYYYYY

Her ego knows no bounds.

Humiliated in a primary.

Thoroughly sidelined as veep.

Fumbled a presidential election.

Still thinks she's important.

Former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg left the door open to a potential 2028 presidential run during a visit to Iowa — but he says his sights are set right now on the 2026 midterm elections.

After rallying phone bank volunteers with Democratic congressional hopeful Sarah Trone Garriott in Des Moines on Monday, July 13, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and winner of the 2020 Iowa Democratic caucuses offered a one-word response when asked if he would rule out a 2028 White House run.

”Nope.”

This Queen is so tired. Been campaigning for 50 years, hasn’t held an elected position since being mayor, hasn’t moved the needle on the demographics he needs. Just gay and and growing a beard. :alsemanche:

South Carolina looks like it will remain the first state to vote in the Dem primary. This will be the first open primary to kick off in SC since Biden moved it to the front of the line after it gave him his 2020 win. Looks like the lineup could be: South Carolina —> Nevada —> New Hampshire —> Michigan

https://www.axios.com/2026/07/24/democrats-2028-first-primary-south-carolina-nevada

Fun fact, South Carolina has voted for the eventual winner of the Dem nomination in every primary it has had with 2 exceptions: 1988 and 2004. In those two elections they voted for a South Carolina native.

The people that I think are smiling:

Kamala Harris because she has name recognition among Black voters and, from the small data we’ve gotten this far out, seems to be polling well among that voting group. Even though she was critical of Joe in her book, Hunter still described her as loyal after the fact. A Joe Biden endorsement could still be in play and funny enough, SC could be one of the only places in America where his opinion could be welcomed. Early signs show solid support from Black voters in Michigan. While it’s still way too early to say she’s got it in the bag, she would certainly start off a 2028 campaign with an edge.

Jon Ossoff: Does he want to run? Genuinely don’t know. When he says he’s focused on the Senate race I actually believe him. IF KLB wins the governor’s race in Georgia and makes it possible for Ossoff to run without losing a seat in the senate for the Dems, then I think he could be convinced to run. Reason why I think SC is good news for him is because he’s proven to be a candidate that can get Southerners to the polling booth. And more crucially, he can get Black voters to show up for him.

Gavin Newsom is lagging lately but there were signs that he was doing well among Black voters earlier in the year. Plenty of time to shore up that support. He’s also aggressively chasing a Biden endorsement. What bodes well for him is Nevada going right after SC. He can get Western Latinos to show up for him and if he were to lose SC, could potentially still be in the conversation if he wins another important voting group after that. Will probably get a boost when Buttigieg drops out though. :billie:

I’m thinking she’s leaning more towards a Senate run lately. Kind of want midterms to be done and over with so we can get a better picture of where everyone stands. :nooo:

She'd be better off running a primary challenge against Schumer, he's at the most vulnerable hes been in awhile

Time in the senate would be beneficial for her for an eventual run for the presidency. A jump straight from the House is a little ambitious. Especially since she’s only in her mid 30s.

Honestly, progressives would be better off targeting legislative seats over the WH. They'd be redundant in the WH if they don't effectively control the democratic congressional caucauses

And before I forget. Yang (y’all remember Yang from 2020?) said word on the street in California is that Kamala’s people are starting to tell others that she’s actively getting ready for her 2028 campaign. Which, is obvious af. She’s constantly going to the South to try to gain visibility among Black voters. But I figured I’d bring it up here. Oh, and Deadline released an odd article where they advised David Ellison to ask Kamala for advice on the Paramount/WB merger because she low key could be the next president.  Odd but like, would make sense if there’s chatter among the donor class that she’s running.

Low key we need to get one into a Governor’s mansion (not Hong though. Jesus, not Hong) to boost profile and odds of making it into the White House.

I genuinely don't know why she's doing this.

She was hated when she ran in 2020.
Hated when she ran in 2024.

Third times the charm?

I think I understand why SHE thinks it’s a good idea.

In 2020 and 2024 (to a much smaller extent) she didn’t have the name recognition she has now.

In 2024 she didn’t have time to do much other than rebrand Biden’s campaign and add a few things. Couldn’t distance herself from Biden’s short comings because the man was still in office and it would eventually backfire on her. She has plenty of time now.

And what I think has given her the biggest ego boost is that she’s doing better than a lot of the rumored hopefuls among Black voters. Even early polls in MI show that there’s potentially something there among that demographic for her to scoop up.

Do I think she’s the strongest for the General? Hell no. Do I think she has a lot of cards stacked in her favor this early out for the Primary? Well, yes. Especially after the South Carolina decision that keeps it first in the Primary.
