AOC can and will do so much more for everyone if she goes this path

Yeah, she'd become one of the defacto leaders of the party in a much less vulnerable and temporary position than president(ial nominee). She's already said her aspirations aren't positional so I really don't see her aiming for the literal highest office.

I thought I remembered the DSA having bad blood with AOC over some semantics. I think they hated that she sided with Nancy Pelosi on something. Idk my mind is foggy but it’s a good sign that they’ve gotten over their purist mindset and realized she reads as genuine and can be an asset when supported instead of vilified.

TBH I don’t know if the senate seat is attainable for AOC. NYC has enclaves of very liberal neighborhoods but at the state level there will be much more conservative voters heading to the polls.  The way I see it, Schumer’s seat will go to someone a little more palatable for suburban New Yorkers. As crazy as this sounds, I think her future in politics would benefit from a presidential run. She may not win the nomination, but if she energizes enough people (which I sincerely think she can) she could leverage that into a cabinet position and “live to fight another day.” Whereas if she loses in New York at the state level her career could be over. It’s a tough gamble for her. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime for someone still very young.

Idk, to be fair I've only just started hearing about them in a serious way during this cycle. Idk how organized they've become or who their candidates actually are, the people I listened to speaking about them just suggested that they'd back a senate run for AOC should 2026 go well for them :bradley:

Schumer won by about 15%, I'm pretty sure if AOC were to unseat him in a primary she'd win no problem. If the anti-Israel/anti-incumbent thing is still happening in 2028, and I suspect it will be, she has a real shot tbh.

Marco Rubio: He gets a small boost for being seen as "the adult in the room" but as part of this administration, he still owns all the faults and mistakes. He'd do better among Republicans but he wouldn't get enough Independent support to actually win unless he's against someone as weak as AOC.

The real make or break moment for Rubio is the emerging Cuba policy.

He's got 2 years to make a name for himself on this where he either becomes the Cuban-American to secure Cuba's "Freedom" or the Cuban-American who had the power to do it and failed.

If he can successfully get Trump to go into Cuba in a meaningful way the Democrats will be locked out of power for awhile because it would lock a decent % of the latino vote in key swing states to the GOP.

Actually, the way Trump, Rubio, etc are talking about Cuba is costing them heavily with Cuban voters here in Florida and they make up about 5%-8% of the Republican votes in this state :lolly:

It's a big reason why the gerrymander they pulled here is likely a dummymander.

Also, there's only 90 miles of water between Cuba and Florida. If we invade Cuba in any way we're suddenly going to be dealing with hundreds of thousands or even millions of people coming up on boats and rafts.

I'd argue taking any action in Cuba would be an enormous nail in Republicans' coffin that would turn Florida back into a swing state and doom Rubio forever.

MOT

Some thoughtful, rational analysis in this thread, but ....ehh ... where is that going ? We're talking about a country which twice in the last ten years has elected a guy whose main calling card is that he is a joke.

And let's get 2026 out of the way first. Republican strategy is going to be to gerrymander/rig/corrupt the midterms as far as possible, and where that doesn't work to refuse to accept the results, backed up by their paramilitary wing and by scotus and by Musk. Let's see how all that goes and what sort of 2027 and 2028 emerge from it.

I am not predicting the results here by the way. The Republican strategy might succeed, or it might just get crushed by the numbers, I don't know, but how 2026 plays out is the most important thing right now imo.

I'd say that democrats have a good chance to win but I'm keeping in mind that fascists are currently in power and they are not known to give away power easily.

I can see a scenario where Trump refuses to give up power and genuinely locks himself away in The White House to the point we have Jan 6th 2.0 but instead it’s Dems storming the capital to pull him out. I still think this ballroom he’s building/built idk the state of it is gonna be a place he actually hides in when it comes around.

I want AOC so bad, but I feel like Dems are gonna push Newsom :selena:

She would get slaughtered in a general election.  Have to be strategic.

The way fauxgressives and DSA have completely infiltrated the Democratic Party and their only goal is to destroy the party, if real Dems don’t rally early behind a candidate, we’ll probably end up with Maureen Galindo or some other Nazi as the nominee.

Genuinely can’t tell If this is parody because what on God’s green earth are you talking about lmao

Dems destroyed themselves by being fake progressives.

Yeah, if anything, progressives are the only chance the party has of surviving. But also probably important to remember that that user compared calling out a genocide to Nazi blood libel, so anyone to the left of Ben Givir is too radical for them lmao

Really interesting seeing how Vance has been sent out to bat for the Iran deal domestically and not Rubio.

Wonder if Rubio deliberately stepped back to avoid being pubilcly attached to defending an unpopular deal

I think that’s exactly what’s going on. That goblin eared fruit probably got so excited when his name started getting tossed around in the news.
