Yeah, I'm realizing just how consumed she is with fame and power right now.

And that's actually how much power she holds. She's really in a different world.

Taylor swift has a magnitude of cultural power and capital that hasn't been possible in the past without internet and real-time global culture exchange.

She now has 2 billions of dollars worth of assets, with tens of millions of dollars of income at least every year, and there are millions of people around the world who worship her.

She wields that power very well. For herself.

This is so well versed. I couldn't have said it better

Your point is very fair.

I was actually talking about this with my dad today.  I was saying how it's a joke the big A List celebs that are Knicks fans like Ben Stiller per se are these big vocal democrats yet the owners of the joint are buddying up to Trump and inviting him to Game 3.  He more or less was like when you get to my age you realize that's just how people are for the most part.  Out for themselves.

Admittedly since I like Gaga more than Taylor or the Knicks I'd probably be willing to cut her more slack in that regard.  Still personally I don't worship Gaga or it's not beneath me to find certain aspects of her I'll say that are disappointing.

I mean doesn't it seem a little tackier though to have a wedding in MSG vs a concert?

I do think the idea of Taylor getting married at MSG is tacky. I don't think tackiness is, by itself, particularly worthy of scorn though.

I guess the problem is that it's hard to find a major venue, in any major city, that isn't owned by individuals or companies with dubious political and financial ties. A lot of us use platforms (Instagram, X, Reddit) owned or operated by people with ties to conservative politicians. I guess the music world is very much the same.

I don't like the Dolan family. But if I weren't a Rangers fan, I'm sure whatever team I did support would have its own problems. The same goes for the celebrities I like performing in such venues. The Dolans just seem less worried about hiding it.

Yeah.  It was fun to root for the Buffalo Sabres this past season.  They made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

I love the more small market/underdog feel of the team but if you look at Terry Pegula their owner he has some questionable deals as well with funding the new Buffalo Bills stadium.

Yeah, I guess the only way to truly avoid this stuff is to go for semi-professional/amateur teams. Then good luck finding a way to watch games or get merchandise. It's just one of those modern dilemmas.

I think as long as fans keep these people on their toes and keep talking about it, it's the most we can do, short of not following the sport at all.

My favorite conspiracy I've recently seen is they're in an arranged marriage to avoid both coming out as gay. I don't really think that is the case but it is hilarious
