Instead, she keeps returning to Dr. Luke and trying to recreate the Teenage Dream/Prism era success that was also heavily shaped by Max Martin and Bonnie McKee. And in my opinion, Katy's partnership with McKee was always the real magic ingredient behind many of those hits. 

I will be fair to her she did attempt to evolve during Witness and Smile to an extent. She received a lot of undeserved backlash over Witness, some of it was so unfounded over things like her hair. I think that period of time traumatized her into regressing artistically to Teenage Dream/Prism sound, she didn’t power through the public perception the same way Gaga did post ARTPOP. She then proceeded to create 143 thinking its what the public wants instead of evolving creatively. She couldn’t have been more ignorant and lost with an album like 143.

It's different because gaga isn't doing that with several songs at the same time while simultaneously trying to push songs that haven't even went viral yet and creating a compilation album with a cringe title.

There isn't anything wrong with pushing an older song/revisiting it, but the way Katy has been doing it for months now does come across as desperate, she's just burying herself deeper and deeper when she should be laying low and/or creating something new of quality so that people wouldn't see her as washed up and a has been.
