Well as long as we have movie companies churning out remake after remake and sequel after sequel to beloved franchises and pop acts just making the same song everyone else has for the millionth time I don't see the culture moving away from that anytime soon.

The GP is also grasping at remakes, sequels and franchises. So are they at the same boring 4 chords progression songs. Just to say that companies are also feeding consumers the way the ask to be fed.

Late to the party but I got a diamond heart

The funniest part is the GP going hard on those songs but rejecting the same type of music released by the same artists in recent years

Nostalgia has ALWAYS happened and been a part of pop culture, even in the 90s the 60s & 70s influenced a lot of popular culture.

Disco evolved into House, Rock n Roll evolved into Garage and influenced Drum n Bass too.
The 2000s was influenced by the 80s, the 2010s was obsessed with the 90s fashion wise and music wise the 80s. It’s all cyclical.

In the late 2010s to now we’ve been through a 90s > 2000s and now 2010s culture shift. Tumblr soft grunge girl aesthetics and makeup are becoming a thing again, music is slowly shifting back to a 90s influence.

I predict that the next wave of music is gonna return to Pop-Rock (Gaga and Charli are already ahead of the curve in that way) and I foresee fashion moving into a more late 80s early 90s direction. I think we’re gonna see the death of Electropop after it’s had a commercial grip for almost 20 years on music (thanks Gagita)

Or if we think about video games, nostalgia is still the main reason why Mario is still a successful franchise, but as kids to us it was "new", but most of us were not even born when Donkey Kong was released to arcade in 1981 and introduced Mario (Jumpman), DK and Pauline.

Wait... :air:

People yearn for quality that isn’t around anymore

It's still there, but it's kind if buried away or doesn't receive proper marketing.

Least we got Coyote vs ACME later in year

I too have noticed that, mainly with many artists from the 2010s era. :selena:

I honestly think this particular wave of nostalgia is, in part, because much of the world and overall quality of life has gotten demonstrably worse since 2017. Through the chaos of the pandemic (the consequences of which, both in terms of public health and it’s socioeconomic impact, we have since failed to reckon with), the destabilization of democracy across the globe, the loss of shared cultural touchstones through the balkanization and diversification of social media feeds, the overall cultural stagnation that comes from a largely disempowered populace, the barrage of historical precedents being repeatedly broken, cultural and political norms being destabilized, power being reorganized geopolitically, people are longing for the last time culture felt sort of “alive” and the quality of life felt, at least relatively, good and people felt optimistic about the future.

TL;DR: people are unconsciously reaching for the last time the world felt “normal” to them in this particular instance.

We have forgotten our public MANNERS

Yeah I do love nostalgia so be it I'm not completely lost in it.

Even though I never watched Jersey Shore I def have nostalgia now for 2009-2012.  So that show came in my mind.
