StrawberryBlond 15,462
I was completely shocked in a good way with the result. While this year was better than most for me, I wasn't enthused by the odds for who was most likely to win, it was all the songs I wasn't as keen on. So I'm glad that one of my top ten faves came out and it was one that no one was predicting to win and the first ever win for Bulgaria as well. It great to get a fun, dancey song that's undoubtedly happy win the contest, the first in a while. Actually, so many of these songs went up in my estimation when I saw them all in the final. My faves changed a bit. Now Bangaranga is one of my ultimate faves, though Poland is still my ultimate fave as well as Sweden, Germany was better than I remember and Norway and Australia grew on me too. I'm glad so many people took it seriously this year and sent genuinely good songs. Trust my country, UK, to finally understand the assignment and go the wacky comedy route the year that everyone decided to take it seriously. We just can't get it truly right! What I'm at least glad about is that it was made clear that just because a country gets 0 public votes doesn't mean that literally no one voted for them, which is what I thought it meant all this time. It just means you didn't place in the top ten of any given country, so you could have been #11 everywhere but it doesn't reflect in the scores. It softens the blow somewhat. And if Israel had won, especially with a not-great song, that would've been a disaster. So, it really was a great year all-round.

It received 78,943 streams in the country on May 17, 32,503 more than Dessita, the previous record holder for nearly two years. 🇧🇬 via esc_charts Estàvem al cel, ara estem a l'infern

I truly believe Sam was the best and most passionate musician in the room, even though he's clearly not the best singer. He's so creative and I'm happy that Eurovision has given him a platform to share his talent. I suggest everyone to check what he does outside of their ESC entry - he builds "music machines", synths, cars and all kinds of weird electronic/mechanic devices and instruments. The props he had on stage were build by him. That is so insanely cool. Look mum infinite points from me ...has anybody seen my disco stick? 1

The props he had on stage were build by him. That is so insanely cool. Look mum infinite points from me I wondered if all those machines were made by him or if they were just props. That's pretty cool. He's not remotely known here, most of our entrants are complete unknowns to us as well as it would be bad sportsmanship to send a big name. It's part of the reason we don't do well as even we have no faith in who we send. The other writers of this song sound Scandinavian and I can't help thinking they were hired specifically to engineer a song that would appeal to the Eurovision audience. Like Sam wouldn't ordinarily have German lyrics or sing about being British or even a song with this type of beat. There's no telling how our choices get received every year. Our submissions are as random as Finland but Finland gets respected for that whereas we get laughed at and told we're trying too hard. Where are you from? I always like to know which countries are liking us.
