What does it have to do with his nationality? :laughga:

This type of dramas with small artists bashing big acts for copying them frequently happen with folks from everywhere.

Firstly it was a joke, secondly hes not that small of an artist, the track is coproduced with a member of Daft Punk - and im sure Gaga of all people is respectful enough to clear the usage with whoever is responsible.

Glad to know I'm 'hot air'

Anyway Gaga's working with a lot of French people Madeon, Gesaffelstein included. Maybe there's a cool reason why.

And thats why I like those French Boys too ;)

I was addicted to Nightcall (Kavinsky's song) when it was released, which was a main theme song for movie Drive with Ryan Gosling. It is not horror, but dark drama/mystery/crime and I'm reaching, but there are good chances Gaga watched that movie.

Gaga did watch the movie, and didn't like it hahah or at least expressed indifference, and i love her for that, that whole movie is such a power male fantasy movie, i remember her acknowledging in a video interview a long time ago

The fact that he is not credited is a shame tbh

Posting this on instagram is fine, he is not insulting her

You guys would never act like that if it was the other way around

Freud

If Gaga's team hasn't informed him of using "Nightcall" I totally understand that he is upset about it. But why calling it a rip-off and being emotional abut it instead of telling everybody that the usage was not cleared.

I hope so but I guess a permission would have been nice. Now we'll see if a gets his bucks but he's not in official credits so he probably won't except if they fix it.

It wouldn't be a Gaga mistake tho, she's not the one managing all that, said already she dislike the business part of things and focus on the art. It would be up to her team. :)

Yall are funny tho. A while ago yall where like yass she sampled, or was inspired by Kavinsky on a rumored Requiem track to now suddenly not knowing who he is.

Anyways, all of this seems mixy. The song sample or not slaps.

I think it's more that there are a lot of people here - especially when something new drops. The same people who don't know him are probably other people than those hyping possible Kavinsky-esque collabs or influences. They're not suddenly acting like this person doesn't exist!

Look at me, for instance. Gaga is the one and only "contemporary" artist I follow and gave my soul to, lol :firega: Before ha and still, I'm a late 70's/entire 80's music gal (everything from Eurythmics to Prince to Kate Bush, The Police, Mike Oldfield + Maggy Reilly, Queen, and so much more).

So I truly had no idea what Nightcall was, listened to it a couple of times and constantly felt that even the arpeggio in question must have different notes. Called a great friend who plays piano/synthesizer and other instruments like it's a body part to compare the two (In the early morning - though she has done so as well, just to clarify): it's synthwave inspiration AT BEST. No Arpeggio note matched on sheet music or in real life. That was the debated section. She added that there are MANY songs using similar vibes, even before Nightcall came out (she definitely knew the song, unlike me :laughga:). And let's not forget Daft Punk's influence, one of them even worked on the production of Kavinsky's song.

If tried in court, it'd be dismissed immediately because there's just no basis there, she said. Even courtesy-wise: it's not a sample so crediting would be WAY too much/giving a heads-up would be nice but Gaga was still rearranging songs 72 hours before the show began (featurette about making of I informed her of), so come on, let her be human, I thought. She can't pull an Abra and Siouxsie with everything she ever puts out. My friend's conclusion was less charitable: To call it a rip-off like that in public was painfully obviously them wanting people to remember Nightcall. :motherofpuppies:

I used my reactions here when somebody made factual statements like how it was mostly an influence/the arpeggio notes don't match at all, etc. Factual statements since my very gifted friend compared Nightcall's sheet music to Gaga's DWAS version, compared the arpeggio etc. for at least 1.5 to 2 hours for me, looking at every possible angle (much longer than I knew she was doing and had asked for. Love you Sandy, lol!) and knows a lot more about this than me - she's in the process of making her own album that combines acoustic instruments with synths and other electronic music.

Anyway, not trying to start a fight or anything like that: it just isn't a sample since the notes are different. It's synthwave influenced. And different people here know and love different music, so not everyone would know Kavinsky necessarily, even if there was hype for those who do know him.  If my friend hadn't informed me, I'd be in the dark.

And yes, Requiem DWAS slaps so hard I have sore cheeks. :bradley:
