This version of DWAS is truly one of the greatest things fans have witnessed

Yes it interpolates/samples/sounds a lot like Nightcall

That may or may not have been intentional

Kavinsky has every right to feel ripped off and post about it

Little managers shouldn't be harassing Kavinsky....

All these things can be true...

Wish we could just celebrate and enjoy this rendition for what it is... Let the copyright lawyers and their teams sort out the rest!!!!

To call this an “undeniable interpolation” and mocking others for not being familiar with the Kavinsky song… is actually just telling on yourself that you only get a synthwave reference because you heard ONE such song in a huge movie a few years ago.

It’s not the flex you think it is hun :cheeky:

If he had to delete an account to avoid bullying from gaga stans that's really sad...

For years I've been saying we left that behind us and weren't crazy bullies anymore. I hope it's still globally true. :laughga:

At least as late as 2020 this fan base was bullying people like crazy. I still remember that guy who reacted to 911 and had a breakdown because fans were bullying him for not understanding it.

Worth noting that Kavinsky did NOT produce nightcall. The production was solely done by Manuel of Daft Punk, and the lyrics were by Kavinsky. She likely did not need Kavinsky’s permission to use the production, only Manuel’s.

So, I hadn't heard DWAS Requiem but now that I have I can say that while it is technically neither a sample nor an interpolation, the overall sound is so strikingly similar the only right thing to do IMO would be to credit them even if it was all unintentional. The negative optics on this are just not worth it.

you all drag beyonce over allegedly not crediting samples and interpolations but when gaga does it oh im sure its a misunderstanding :triggered: interesting

Folks need to realize it's their teams doing it, not Beyoncé or Gaga clearing samples, interpolations, negotiations etc.

Now Beyoncé did publicly talk about writing Irreplaceable after she changed pretty much nothing to it. The original Neyo demo and his reaction while asked about it shown she was a bit bold to frame things this way. Gaga never had messes like that.

indeed it's technically not a sample or interpolation but very similar to the point it directly evokes it...

Gaga is (mainly) a EDM act who famously has a huge musical culture and this track is like a (relatively recent) indie classic as well as a commercial EDM hit. It was just played at the Paris Olympics for a billion watchers after she took part into it... Someone in this thread said there was an itw of her discussing the Drive movie it's in so apparently she saw the film that made it famous. She worked with plenty of French EDM producers so we know she's checking on them and Kavinsky is one of the most famous ones and that's his signature track... Imo there's nearly no way she didn't know the track.

So to me it was intentional but it's her team who messed up with the papers lol.

That's completely against anything Gaga stands for...

Neither are credited on the Mayhem Requiem Apple Music page.

Calling it a rip-off so aggressively when it was just synthwave influence isn't it.

It wasn't "so aggressive" Imo, it was straight forward.

Also it's not "just synth wave influence". It directly evokes Nightcall while plenty of synthwave tracks wouldn't. There's a reason here and any place where it's discussed online you get many folks saying they recognized Nightcall right away.

Even The Paper Magazine journalist said he was tipped off it was based on Nightcall...

Not trying to get after Gaga since I adore her. I think her team ( who's the ones actually managing the collabs royalties, credits part etc not her ) messed up.
