The One That Got the Plays is so tragic a name because it implies the rest of her discography is a flop :laughga:

At first I saw the post empty with your own final line from your bio "No one cares about you"

God speaks in mysterious ways

Off topic: I went to college with this kid and he absolutely hated that he was only known as the little gay boy from School of Rock :icant:

I don't understand that marketing switch. Are they trying to cement her legacy by reminding people she had hits 10-15 years ago in preparation for her next album?

IDK if that's going to work mama... When Gaga flopped, she cemented her legacy by leaning into her artistry and talent with Tony and by doing a bunch of covers for respected artists. That's what Miss Perry should be doing, but I'm afraid she's not exactly... ready for that

If I were her, I'd lean into releasing an album where it's just her and a guitar. Reminiscent of her first album but way more stripped, like what she used to do before she became Katy Perry. She was really good at that. We know she couldn't pull a Gaga-type-of-move as you said, but she's got that possibility. I still don't get why she's choosing this path, cause it highly speaks "tryhard" all over the place

Bandaids and Birthday was a choice to include :sure:

im not her biggest fan, but her teenage dream rollout/era was a force to be reckoned with. Desperate or nah, I think she could be okay with riding out greatest hits.

yep it's the obvious choice. I'm afraid she wouldn't have much to say with her lyrics however.

Her old hits already have rotation, they're iconic. We really don't need to be reminded. Greatest hits playlists really don't have the impact they used to and as she sold her catalogue, she won't be making money on this anyway. She's been trying to push herself as a legacy act for 8 years now, which is partly what fuelled the sales of her residency and last tour but it's really not something we need to be reminded of, it's her new songs that need exposure.

I think it's a perfectly reasonable marketing tactic. Beyonce reminded us of her old hits with her tour after the SB show before making one of the greatest comebacks of all time with a surprise album release. This plan was one of the best comeback rollouts in history and many have tried to copy it since. But it takes real talent and reinvention to make it work and I don't think Katy's really capable of that. She should totally go the acoustic guitar route to win over an older adult crowd but I think she's got so used to being a bubblegum pop star appealing to the young for so long that she can't take that artistic 180.

Wow! I’d rather be known as the little gay boy from School of Rock than nothing at all.

nkta

we’re so dramatic about some playlist lol

meanwhile, most girls in Pop flop left and right: Miley, Halsey, Demi, Kesha, Selena, etc. Katy is actually not in a bad position compared to the other girls.
