Confessions On A Dance Floor vs. ARTPOP

Confessions gets boring halfway through. The songs kind of run on and on. I get that it’s a dance album, but it just rambles imo. I feel like some of melodies are repeated too often too. It’s cohesive, and fun, sure, but ARTPOP is way more interesting.

COADF is a great album, which is all the more reason these first two glimpses at its sequel are all the more foul. I think ARTPOP’s lows are so low that even COADF’s lows are great in comparison. 

I just think COADF is kind of lukewarm compared some of her best stuff (ROL, LAP, Music, even American Life) that it’s just kind of boring (albeit well-produced and well-paced) on the whole. Hung Up is a great song (overrated), Sorry is a very good song, Future Lovers is probably the best song on the album, but the tour and the concert film are the crown jewel of the era. ARTPOP is a mess, but at least it’s exciting (and I say that as someone who wouldn’t even rank ARTPOP top 3-4 in Gaga’s discog).

And it isn’t even bad. It’s a good album, but as a younger person delving in to Madonna to see what the Confessions hype is all about, it is indeed overrated imo. I personally think Ray of Light is superior.

The two singles are way more my speed than anything on the first album (except Hung Up). I’m genuinely excited for the whole body of work and I don’t care for Madonna at all. The album cover eats too.

Honestly, ill tend to vote for any Madonna album pre-Hard Candy in a vs thread. 

Madonna is very very good, or was anyway, at making albums that were actual thematic and cohesive bodies of work. 

Gaga in my personal view is very very good at making good songs and so as collections her albums tend to have more songs I'll listen to in isolation without skipping or songs id seek out. But album wise I feel like she doesn't match Madonna's ability to curate and tie it all together. 

So for me its like Madonna Albums > Gaga Albums. But Gaga songs > Madonna songs.

Its weird foe me because the only Madonna album I ever have any desire to listen to and reach for is the one most people seemingly hate, Madame X. I just think its a masterpiece and such an exploration and influence sonically.

Unpopular opinion, but I tried listening to Confesisona and it didn’t click. ARTPOP is one of my favorite core memory albums…. so ARTPOP.
