Abracadabra is a great video period, I just wish it had more of a storyline. Runway is SERVING amazing looks but remains a very simple video. I love the unexpected horror of these torture, chase, and body horror scenes happening in a normal suburban neighborhood in the middle of the day. I’m sure a vid that was set in a darker place would’ve been good, but the contrast of those two things was surreal and unsettling in a way Gaga usually doesn’t go for, which made it a stand out for me. But also: you’re telling me you ain’t beating the **** out of yourself in the middle of the day?! Blue Velvet meets Jeepers Creepers + daytime stalking scenes in the first Halloween movie teas. I feel like she’s done the purely dark ooky spooky thing so many times that what she did with the video was both unexpected and effective. I also just love how heightened her aesthetic is relative to the setting and how grimey and gross she looks for the whole thing compared to how normal and pristine the backdrop is.
