Saying “flop video” about one of her best videos will never not be wild to me ngl

Well it factually has a flop video, though. Not even 50M views :deadbanana: That says nothing about its quality, I think it’s perfect

I mean, sure, but they were referring to the quality of the video (they’ve said as much before).

Hating on Disease is crazy and  bold choice :ororomunroe:

They’re hating on the idea of it being a single, and well….look how it performed as a single lol

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

A lead single is about establishing the mission statement for the era.

Disease did exactly what it was supposed to do. It established everything that we loved this era.

Y' all keep forgetting that Disease came right after the mess of the Joker era. It was a nice bouncing back after just a short period of constant bombing. Poor sister didn't have a chance. If Joker was successful this jewel of a song would smash hard.

Two things can be true at the same time.

yes to what you said , and it did not perform well. But then again… no Gaga lead single has performed well since applause..

We have different ideas of what a "good" performing single is.

I value artistry.

It’s literally the foundation of every story told this era, from the Abracadabra video through the MBT.

I think sometimes there’s an underestimation on how much control Gaga has. Disease and Abracadabra were far from “typical” or “traditional” choices for a label to make as pop radio singles. If they were really pushing hard strategically in any way we probably would’ve gotten Garden of Eden as lead, Vanish as second single, or something similar

I really think Gaga has some wicked creative freedom with Interscope, we’ve only really heard otherwise during ARTPOP and even she came out on top of that fight with reclaiming it post-Troy and finishing the tour strong

Can’t say I disagree. I said it before and I’ll say it again. I think that the era should’ve kicked off in Feb with Abracadabra. Not only Disease wasn’t the best choice for the lead single but it was also released at the same time as Joker and Harlequin and was DOA. I get that they might’ve done it as damage control because of how hard Joker flopped but it didn’t really do anything and the first single deserved its own moment. I’m not saying Disease is a bad song but not necessarily a single material let alone lead single.

Funny thing is for a mere pop album, the singles chosen would have been quite fitting. But as the album was way more mature and partly rather indie, I see the discrepancy in what fans expected from this era and what we got when it comes to singles and MVs.

Gaga wanted to maintain her status as mainstream artist and just sprinkle her other ventures here and there with collabs and the tour. I get that, mainstream is where the money is at.

Also don't forget that both Disease (I want your disease) and Abracadabra (Ab Ra Ab Ra Cadabraaa) where major reminiscing songs tying this era to Bad Romance and Fame Monster.
