It’s just like biding for art which happens on the regular. I really don’t see anything wrong with incentivizing people to bid for donations if the end result is a bigger donation. My schools would have auctions to raise money when I was growing up, and it’s literally just parents, grandparents, etc. of students who would attend, maybe alumni.
