I thought in the early days she was seen as a joke internet star who is just copying Madonna

I remember specifically that it was when she became mega famous, she was heavily compared to Madonna yes but wasn’t accused of outright copying her or getting hate until late 2010 when Alejandro became a single. Because people forget social media as we know it was very much in its infancy when she debuted. Twitter was barely a thing and people weren’t exactly hate posting about her that much.

the actual instigator and a  big turning point as well was Rolling Stone called her The Queen of Pop on a cover in 2009, and to this day she’s the only female popstar to be actively compared to Madonna as an equal and not as her junior like Britney was for example.

However I’m sure PawsDownLittleMonsters became a thing in 2010 lol

this makes me CREASE with laughter because Gaga pays her absolute dust now, I've noticed that's why her fans don't like Gaga nowadays (since they're hardly in the same calibre or league anymore) because Katy constantly watches or praises her and Gaga just doesn't give af lol

like a comment mentioned even in this video Katy says "I'm a big fan" and Gaga replies "nice to meet you" rather than "me too" or something similar

Really fascinating to read those commenrs from way back when, before anyone knew her or had a chance to decde if they loved her or hated her, before there was any bs about her being a man or a satsniat or blah  ... just a song by a new artist and people loved it.
