I get it, but I also, from a psychological standpoint, view that as being something I’d associate with a teen or maybe someone in their early 20s. About to get a bit in the weeds here, but: I see a lot of that idolization as being useful as a means to the eventual end of breaking down idol worship, internalizing and integrating what it is you see about an artist or figure you like as something more universal and essential, and maturing into someone who is able to recognize the object of “worship” is a fantasy that both is and is not connected to the artist it’s attached to. It’s iconic in a exploitative (akin to the morbid fascination with reality TV, not necessarily financially so) kind of way, as a form of “collective hysteria” (à la Beatlemania), teen rebel/evangelist (pop as statement of self-identity + teen religion) kind of way, but I do think at a certain point it needs to be mediated by a more grounded mindset/worldview.

Oh I like this psychological view of it! Yeah definitely one should mature to see the difference. I think when you're older, you can still stan, but absolutely should be weary that you don't have an actual relationship with the artist.

We can only hope that the song is used in a scene in the movie that goes viral.

Lovely how little monsters refuse to support her once again :triggered:

I think this argument is getting tired. Weve seen evidence time and time again that her fan base is not the size t was on 2010/2011 peak. She is not Taylor Swift.

Her fans DO stream the music. I dont think many here havent listened to it multiple times. But the GP and casual fans need to also bite. If they dont, a few hundred people on Gagadaily or simmilar sites, or a few thousand hardcore fans u dont see on GGD will make absolutely no dent whats so ever. And to be totally fair, very very few artists 17 or 18 years into their career at age 40 (especially women) have fan bases that are gonna make a song chart high either. It just generally doesnt happen so I think we can stop gaslighting Little Monsters as the problem. Gagas fan base still carries her much stronger than a typical 40 year old pop star. If we exclude TS who is kind of the exeption, Gaga would be the #2 runner up for longevity in women of the last 20 years. Shes outlasted Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Lorde, Nicky Minaj, Cardi B and any other big women in the industry who came around within same time frame. Shes also holding success longer than older pop stars like Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears did (granted spears has special reasons)

But the GP still matters. Proof - Fan base loved Abra and Disease way more than DWAS. In fact DWAS got so much criticism for being basic and got lukewarm fan reception at first especially

Why did it do well when fans clearly prefered Disease and Abra??? Its cuz the GP matters (a lot).

Our fan base simply isnt large enough to on its own make a song a hit. Weve seen proof of that time and time again. The songs the GP likes are the ones that become hits not the ones the fan base like

That’s a very sad way to look at how fan should behave. Lets not even talk about her, don’t listen to her music, don’t attend her concerts, dont buy her records…?

That's literally not what they said though...?

They just said being a fan doesn't require you to like & buy & stream everything.

But, and yes this is a hot take, but that parasocial attachment to celebrities is what makes fan culture iconic imo.

I don't think you actually understand what "parasocial" means, then

We're not that young anymore to be streaming the song all day... we all have a life and responsibilities :neyde:

Gaga isn't BTS. The success of her music has always been linked to the GP. It's up to Gaga's team to promote the song, send it to radios, and do things that appeal to the GP. It's not solely "our job".

Agreed. I'd also add she is at a point where releasing Runway is a big "i'm this bitch, i don't give a single ****". It very much gives that feeling to me. She's hungry in a different way now. The 2010 Gaga would have not release this. Like at all. She's enjoying being the legend she is. Why would she care about having a hit with this one... I'm deeply sure she used this as an excuse to release music which didn't fit into MAYHEM. Simple as that, at least to me. And that holds enough power for her to not even care about how well it performs, just because *she* can do it. No matter how well it does

I also think the whole Mayhem era is themed around how she sees herself totally different to the image of Gaga the world & fans have.

Like she doesn't give a **** about the singles charts - that is blatantly clear this era with how she's approached promo. Hell, I know DWAS got shoehorned into the album but id be willing to bet that was a label decision she didn't give a **** about as well lol.

This sooooo much. With this era, we have seen her be in the Fat Juicy and Wet music video, her release the Harlequin album and it’s performance, her release this song, and also in general, just behave in a more passionate and carefree way. The reason I list the above things are because those are all things that maybe don’t, numbers and industry-wise, work or make sense, and are certainly things she wouldn’t have done because she would have overthought it. But they are fun little projects for her.

I think that if we genuinely stop caring about numbers, A) They will still come, since she has proven to bring them time and time again, but B) we will get more from projects from her, since having eager, supportive fans that back her for her releases probably is what she desires more. She said numerous times how exciting Abracadabra felt, because she felt her fans coming together in excitement.

In short, let’s just enjoy the powerhouse that she is and she can enjoy feeding us

Another situation where most people spend more time and energy arguing and bitching about a song rather than supporting her musical output. Not everything has to be the epitome of pop masterclass (even though this kinda is one of the great releases this year).

IMO this is just a doechii song. Which sucks because Gaga’s parts are good, they just aren’t present. Also song j isn’t my vibe. Maybe I’m getting older but a song about working it on the runway just feels…idk. Like 12/yo me ig.
