I can see this as a fair point, but personally (and this may come from my love of the 2000s lol) I feel like this want to support an artist in a chaotic way just has a cool feeling of sorts. Yes, it is absolutely crazy no denying it lol, but I always think for example of when Lady Gaga said in 2009 that she liked to lick vinyl pages from artists she liked in the hope that maybe they touched it there. It psychotic (in her words), but that is something that makes fan cultures stand out.

To make it abundantly clear, I am not saying this in defence of stalkers or other creeps. That regardless of my thoughts of stan culture is 100% wrong and should not be condoned in any capacity.

Eh, around what I expected. I don't think the song will take off though, unless it goes viral (which is the only way you get a hit nowadays), and that won't happen at least until May 1st. 

I think we can enjoy this song without caring about its chart performance though. It's not like she'll get an Oscar for it, nor it is a lead single or anything

I get it, but I also, from a psychological standpoint, view that as being something I’d associate with a teen or maybe someone in their early 20s. About to get a bit in the weeds here, but: I see a lot of that idolization as being useful as a means to the eventual end of breaking down idol worship, internalizing and integrating what it is you see about an artist or figure you like as something more universal and essential, and maturing into someone who is able to recognize the object of “worship” is a fantasy that both is and is not connected to the artist it’s attached to. It’s iconic in a exploitative (akin to the morbid fascination with reality TV, not necessarily financially so) kind of way, as a form of “collective hysteria” (à la Beatlemania), teen rebel/evangelist (pop as statement of self-identity + teen religion) kind of way, but I do think at a certain point it needs to be mediated by a more grounded mindset/worldview.

Gaga isn't BTS. The success of her music has always been linked to the GP. It's up to Gaga's team to promote the song, send it to radios, and do things that appeal to the GP. It's not solely "our job".
