Although it’s not the exactly the same, I remember when I realized that I was in love for the first time in a deep way, it was actually painful because I was afraid that I would lose it again and even thinking about admitting how much he mattered to me was overwhelming, so I feel like that’s kind of where’s she’s at in the song. She’s trying to feel hopeful in spite of herself. Thanks, it's so obvious why the song sounds melancholic. GGD, of all places, who knows all of her history of pain and broken engagements, should know that. Must be the same people who think Joanne is an album about her aunt and who find 911 too robotic. VOLANTIS 16,457
While its still my least favorite on the album I feel like it could have been made better with a more cinematic/dramatic production. Orchestral route like LDR's "young and beautiful or even "before I cry" from ASIB. While I understand that Gaga would have preferred a more intimate and stripped back production either way as it pertains to something very personal for her, it is on sale for general public and it comes across as flat on an album that is otherwised produced deliciously for ear-gasms. No. Blade Of Grass doesn’t sound melancholic, it sounds traumatic. I don’t like it and no, I never ever thought Joanne was about her aunt or that 911 was too robotic. In fact, I thought it didn’t sound robotic enough. The robotic bridge they didn’t keep in the final version was the best part of the song. The way she plays with words and imagery, she has her own way of writing poetry which I love and so many iconic lyrics as well, even if they're campy. I guess that's why these ones bother me. But I agree it's true that there's definitely others that are like as well lol Absolutely agree. She writes some great lyrics (Princess Die for example, just off the top of my head, what a song), but sometimes it's as if she goes 'what the hell, it rhymes, move on'. alexcal24 46
I'll probably get dragged, but I hate that whiny vocal style on the song, also found on Dope/Without You whatever the name is and a little less on Speechless. I get where she comes from and what she wants for the song to come across to the listener but it is A N N O Y I N G AF to do that whine. It comes across as pretentious at least to me.
