In one generation we went from $500 consoles to, most likely when the PS6 & next xbox come out, $1000+ consoles. The world is so ****ed in every way. It's hard to believe.

The portal should be $50 instead then I'd get it again bc not worth the $200 or now $250 for a laggy ipad with controls

When is a PS6 coming? It feels like PS5s have been around a while.

At a time when hardware component prices are going up, we won't be getting cheaper consoles anymore. The only notable exception is gonna be when significantly revised models come out that have companies replacing some internals with something cheaper.

Allegedly Holidays 2027

Edit: It's following the typical 7 year console cycle

It's funny because I can buy now PS5 disc version for $300 and pro for $600.. I almost bought the portal for $170, but I don't need it tbh.

PS5 value fell down long time ago, it can't even hold MSRP price since 2024, the pro is jumping between $600-$650 since black friday lol

They are delusional.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Thanks. So like next year. I guess if they’re increasing prices now they see this as their last window to milk the 5 before it’s replaced with the 6 and 5 prices truly plummet. But who would spend more money for an almost outdated version when the new one is right around the corner.

Gaming is not a niche anymore , it became essential in every home now and even old people are playing video games these days, especially the cozy games.

I don't think that's true and I also don't think that's the reason for these prices lol

I think it's the prices of parts and tariffs finally  catching up to Sony. Last year when tariffs started they shared in a shareholder meeting that they had secured parts for another year and could absorb those costs. Well since then RAM prices have jumped and it's been nearly a year as well. So there's a lot catching up to console prices now. OEMs don't want to raise prices on consoles. Ideally, they simplify production over several years, replace some metal parts with plastic as they update cooling tech, and obtain the technology behind the console for cheaper as it ages ultimately leading to cheaper COGs. That's how they were able to bring consoles to profitability and lower prices in the past. Obviously the parts aren't getting cheaper unfortunately and that puts a squeeze on them because consoles have historically not been profitable for Sony with them relying on games/services sales to make the generation profitable.

It would not surprise me if Sony tried to run a more lean inventory over the next few months in hopes that prices and tariffs come down. But it also would not surprise me if this is to condition consumers for the cost of the PS6 next year. $750 entry-level consoles coming to stores near you Holidays 2027.
