Her delivery on this is soooooo fierce it needs to be studied

[Ew]
In the most Biblical sense, I am beyond repentance
Fame hooker, prostitute, wench vomits her mind
But in the cultural sense, I just speak in future tense
Judas, kiss me if offensed, or wear ear condom next time

Full-stop: open the schoolhauses

It’s like, if ever Gaga had a Pop Gospel moment… #thus: Judas, kiss me if offenced… send me to crucify (the Judas kiss of betrayal); or, wear ear condom next time … abort the sound of the underground before it hits public consciousness… either way #wrapitup

… and then the low-key Sermon on the Motorcycle Diary moment

When Jesus was eating with his twelve disciples that evening, he said, “One of you will surely hand me over to my enemies… One of you men who has eaten with me from this dish will betray me. The Son of Man will die, as the Scriptures say. Woe to that man… it would have been good for that man if he had not been born…” this way, baby… ear condom #lethalsounds #biblicallyspeaking

… but/and/also there’s just and entire exegetical entirety happening in the top line biblically cultural tantamount tense

Is Gaga even known for her bridges?! I can literally only think of Marry The Night's bridge off the top of my head... maybe Heavy Metal Lover. And Judas.

So Born This Way seems to be my answer :oprah:

For some reason, Britney springs to mind when I think of pop bridges; but I noticed in the song polls that people would mention how bridges were the saving grace for otherwise unsalvagable Gaga songs … and then I dove back into the catalogue and was like … wow … what a deceptively ample arsenal … also, Gaga’s song structures feel more “eclectic” than her Aught Pop contemporaries, so maybe identifying a conventional “bridge” might not be as instantaneous within the formula

But, the thread so far has really solid selections …

Poker Face

Spoiler

I won't tell you that I love you
Kiss or hug you
'Cause I'm bluffin' with my muffin
I'm not lyin', I'm just stunnin' with my love-glue-gunnin'
Just like a chick in the casino
Take your bank before I pay you out
I promise this, promise this
Check this hand 'cause I'm marvelous

LoveGame (not mentioned, but a contender I’d say)

Spoiler

I can see you staring there from across the block
With a smile on your mouth and your hand on your (Huh!)
The story of us, it always starts the same
With a boy and a girl and a huh! and a game (Huh!)

Just Dance (not sure if it has been mentioned here, but River showered a bouquet of half psychotic sick hypnotic kudos to its bridge in a thread not too long ago)

Spoiler

Half psychotic, sick, hypnotic, got my blueprint, it's symphonic
Half psychotic, sick, hypnotic, got my blueprint, electronic
Half psychotic, sick, hypnotic, got my blueprint, it's symphonic
Half psychotic, sick, hypnotic, got my blueprint, electronic

Go, use your muscle, carve it out, work it, hustle
(I got it, just stay close enough to get it on)
Don't slow, drive it, clean it, Lysol, bleed it
Spend the last dough (I got it) in your pock-o (I got it)

Paparazzi

Spoiler

Real good, we dance in the studio
Snap, snap to that **** on the radio
Don't stop for anyone
We're plastic, but we still have fun

Starstruck (living iconically rent-free in niche pop minds across the base)

Spoiler

Groove, slam, work it back
Filter that, baby, bump that track
Groove, slam, work it back
Filter that, baby, bump that track
Groove, slam, work it back
Filter that, baby, bump that track
Groove, slam, work it back
(Filter that) Baby, bump that track

I Like It Rough

Spoiler

I'm shiny and I know it
Don't know why you wanna blow it
Need a man who likes it rough
Likes it rough, likes it rough (Baby likes it rough)
I'm shiny and I know it
Don't know why you wanna blow it
Need a man who likes it rough
Likes it rough, likes it rough (Baby likes it rough)
I'm shiny and I know it (Is it 'cause you don't mean it?)
Don't know why you wanna blow it (Or because I don't feel it?)
Need a man who likes it rough (Unless it's rough)
Likes it rough, likes it rough (Baby likes it rough)
I'm shiny and I know it (Is it 'cause you don't mean it?)
Don't know why you wanna blow it (Or because I don't feel it?)
Need a man who likes it rough (Unless it's rough)
Likes it rough
Lady Gaga, engage

That’s already more than I thought even The Fame would have, so, in the interest of time and typing, I’ll leave the existing examples as a starting point for future explorations—I dig your top-liners though!

My favorite one is Perfect Illusion’s

For the sake of posterity …

Spoiler

Where are you? 'Cause I can't see (It was a perfect illusion)
But I feel you watchin' me
Dilated, fallin' free
In a modern ecstasy
Where are you? 'Cause I can't see (It was a perfect illusion)
But I feel you watchin' me
But I feel you watchin' me (Illusion)
But I feel you watchin' me (Mistaken for love)
Where were you? 'Cause I can't see (Illusion)
But I feel you watchin' me (Mistaken for love)
Dilated, fallin' free
In a modern ecstasy (Mistaken for love)
In a modern ecstasy
In a modern ecstasy
I'm over the show
Yeah, at least now I know

The energetic vibe on that bridge … whew, I appreciate the rewind remind

YOU GET IT

to us, this bridge is like a thesis statement for Gaga's entire career, in that she states her commitment to art is as live-or-death as Christ's acceptance of his prophesied death for mankind

Gaga bore the cross of creating excessive, urgent art-pop for the culture at the time, well aware that her artistry would become legacy and set the stage for other bombastic music acts... and that despite her own maturation as an artist, the Born This Way era would function as a critical (dare I say sacred?) text for her fans and artists she's influenced

Bless, up, electric chaplains :applause: :queenga:

The bridge capstones the collective crescendo of this next testament pop prophecy … with echoes of a martyr manifesto … puns notwithstanding, the literal Easter eggs interwoven in the Paschal tapestry flow with an understated precision … also, the deeply embedded Mary / Magdalene emerging feminine archetype is an absolutely paramount point of critical discourse / cultural reference / (sacred?) source text … the subtle points of diametric shift are poetic on the surface but potent at the source (ex. “forgive him when his tongue lies through his brain,” echoes this recognition of the Cartesian (I think therefore…) / logical / assertive / brain-based point of masculine authority … in contrast to the intuitive / empathetic / nurturing / heart-based bedrock of feminine energy) … and the song navigates this duality throughout the lyrical progession, moreover in that she owns it at every station … I’ll digress here for now, but on a closing note … I do love that, even in the song itself, she outlives every character in the frame (or, lyrically speaking, at least), that the last line is “Ju-das, Ju-da-ah, Ju-das, Ga,ga-ah) … her first impression remains the refrain’s infamous last word

Not sure if that made any sense, but/and I thoroughly appreciate your energy and insights
