Well HBO max already has my money, so I am not gonna pirate it in a lower quality. And it is not for others to decide what people are allowed to enjoy or that we dont “need HP media”. It is not about that. The last point you made is subjective. I love HP, and I do not agree at all with what JK says. But I am not gonna let that decide for me if I can enjoy a franchise I grew up with and adore.

Like I said, people are allowed to enjoy things, even when nog agreeing with people involved with that thing have said or done. And like I said, in no way is what she did and said acceptable, but it is not and “either/or” situation, at least in my opinion

same, I already pay for HBO, so I might as well

I enjoyed it as a kid but as a grown up I just don't care, and JK Ho certainly doesn't help. Even if I did like it, I would avoid it.

I will watch it and I’m too lazy to figure out how to pirate it - if it makes the mob feel better I mooch off my friends hbo subscription so no involved party is receiving my money :sue:

The justifications in this thread are mind boggling, I'll just say that much. As an English teacher, I beg everyone to read a new book, my Lord. You could literally watch Avatar: The Last Airbender, and get the same exact story and themes told better and with more inclusivity.

There is a 1-to-1 pipeline of supporting Harry Potter and the rolling back of trans rights, regardless of the mental justifications used to support an adaptation of a 30+ year old children's book and film series.

Real question, how much pirated versus legally obtained content do you guys usually watch? Because it's such a no brainer for me, regardless of J.K. being in the equation :air:

Hot take: you don't need to change bigots' minds, just render their voices irrelevant or make sure there's always a counter to their idiocy.

It's 2026. If she was interested in education, it's more readily available now than it ever has been in human history. Especially since she had quite the queer following to begin with.

My pitchfork remains raised and will always be raised.

I mean, I totally get it! It was just me being "kindness punk" type of. Like, I of course do know, world doesn't unfortunately work like that. It's just, like, maybe I am being too naive of thinking "you can't fight fire with fire". But I do know, she is being very harmful to the LGBTQ+ community, and I've done my share to tell people to not to give support to her.

But I am absolutely here for taking this bitch down with fire. The "pitchfork" comment I used maybe sounded wrong. Sorry, I quite didn't realize how my comment came off.

I am not native English speaker - not that it matters but I do struggle to explain myself in a way that it makes sense lol - and I really hope I didn't come off I'd be defending her, ew no.

Maybe it's going to be an unpopular opinion here and I'm putting myself at risk again but f it 😆 I loved the books and the original movies. I don't have to like or agree with the author to praise their work and in this case it was a huge part of my childhood and teenage years. I don't like the idea of this remake for several reasons.

Predictably, I don't like the race swaping just for the sake of it, or making noise around the production (Disney - I am talking about you too). Race swap worked for me in House of the Dragon for instance, when they when they introduced the characters with other skin colors than in the books, adapting the story to the screen for the first time. I didn't have to associate an old character with a completely new screen image. I would have the same problem with Snape if they made him looking like Hemsworth's Thor. (I hope I explained myself enough not to be canceled here again 😜).

I don't like the color grading used in the trailer. Looks very cheap and as a filmmaking person myself, the teal/orange combo usually makes up for some poor lighting. One can see variations of basically 2-3 colors and it makes the scenography look even more boring, underdeveloped.

Harry potter movies are still pretty relevant and still haven't "aged" enough to be remade so quickly. I still associate the old actors' faces and voices with theor characters. I will have a problem reshaping this imagery after such short time.

I will watch the 1st season, but not for some great need of watching it. I am just curious if they manage to add anything meaningful to the original and the production delivers, despite my great doubts - or I will be proven right.

if it turns out to be an actual piece of tv really worth watching, providing something the movies didn't, i will at most pirate it out of curiosity

but the trailer itself didn't really tell me anything was majorly different apart from adding more details

i'm pretty sure i'll just watch long youtube reviews from channels like friendly space ninja to see what the fuss is about

I don't think I could care less, I haven't watched the trailer either. I just know it's going to be bad. I'm tired of studios and CEOs trying to make bank again and again on reboots and remakes. Art is dying, authenticity is dying, inspiration is dying. All to feed the avaricious monster that is capitalism. I'm so tired of it.

I concur

I think that if filmmakers and authors and were actually genuinely truthfully trying to be inclusive they'd write NEW stories with minorities in the lead roles instead of just hitting control f replace with the script.

Anything goes!
