The Dead Dance mops, I fear. Especially after hearing it live at MBT.

Don’t rub it in, sister. I fear she’s cut it before coming to Boston 😭

I feel like they both suffer from the same issue, where the verses are AMAZING but then the chorus is just so bland and basic bubblegum pop, where I would have hoped they would take it the EXTRA mile in how insane the verses were. But for nostalgia reason wins for me, despite the fact that I also really enjoy campiness of TDD. It's a gr8 song and ya'll should get some taste.

It was never getting major reactions from the crowd so she may have cut it due to that

I'll never understand the hate it gets

The hate (for me) isn’t toward the song personally, it’s because Mayhem is full of superior songs that didn’t get videos.

The Dead Dance is cute and okay, but Mayhem has other full-on anthems on it. I understand why the Dead Dance got one instead, but I definitely think it’s an inferior song to the rest of Mayhem.

TDD is proof that Gaga can put out a good song and her fans will remain tasteless :billie:

Bad Kids is fun but it suffers the same fate as a lot of her older stuff. The lyrics are lowkey childish and...idk, banal? Like, it approaches this semi-serious topic with lyrics that sound straight from a mid-2000s teen Disney movie :kry: still love the MJ reference though.

The Dead Dance didn't exactly reinvent the wheel but it's such a fun and inoffensive song. I'll never understand the hate it gets 'cause it's not even meant to be taken all that seriously to begin with.

my thing is that Bad Kids is at least very intentionally that way. Not all her songs from that time are, but Bad Kids peddling in the immaturity is the point of it. But I find TDD very much lacking a soul and it falls on her lyrical and image crutches that she trots out when she's short of something else to say ("Like a thief in my head, you criminal", "you killed my queen with just one pawn"). They feel like Ava Max lyrics at best and AI-Gaga prompt at worst. Just kind of textureless to get us to the chorus dance.

To be clear, im not saying bad kids is like blowing everything out of the water, but I do think it at least has a discernible identity.

Poltergeist

TDD is an amazing song with a bad chorus.

Bad Kids is a bad song with an amazing intro.

I choose the first one.

I've been getting messages from my deep waters

Well, I guess it fits with a lot of BTW's lyrics that literally sound like they're right out of high school

BTW, at times, feels like an album she wrote as a love letter to her teenage rebel self (and for teenagers who felt like her when it came out). The album was the soundtrack to my sophomore year of HS, which was honestly perfect

It feels that way because that was the intention. Songs like Bad Kids and Hair were written from the POV of her as a teenager. I don’t know if she ever officially discussed them like that, but if not, it was definitely relayed informally (to fans and such) and onto forums like PJ way back when.

Aw, I actually like this lyric :icant:

It implies one of two things:

1) You've miscalculated something 'cause who would ever leave their queen open to a pawn of all things

2) You've sacrificed strategically and though the loss was heavy, it'll guarantee your victory in the end

Yeah, I like this lyric, too, tbh. I specifically like a lot of the lyrics to TDD in the context of TAOPC and the Mistress storyline as well: feeling like you’ve been “killed” (sent into a “gothic dream” as a form of purgatory) by your shadow and your challenge is to revive yourself and become stronger (but also, on a surface level, it works as a spooky break up song). Love when she’s in her corny boots psychological fantasy bag.

Bad Kids have these very straight forward simplistic lyrics. I think It was hated or seen as cringe cause its so in your nose, It makes It really uncool.

Beyond that, theres a Joy and a soul in It that can't be replicated. Which Is the whole thing with btw.

I like tdd but Is slightly clunky. Sounds more constructed.
