I'm convinced that people who think that all cats are unfriendly creatures who hate humans have literally never spent time with a cuddly cat. Yeah I'm sure the animal that fell asleep with his face pressed up against mine last night hates me

This is actually a huge reason why I don't even view cats as on the same level as dogs or other pets anymore  in my mind, they're more akin to pests or vermin. My neighborhood is infested with stray cats and it's infuriating when my neighbors put food out for them 'cause they're always in my yard sh*tting and pissing all over the place and antagonizing my dog (one time even attacking my dog). And it's not even legal to get rid of them like you can with other wild animals  

The only thing keeping their population in check is one neighbor that catches them and has them fixed (but unfortunately released right back here) and these two pit bulls that keep escaping one of my neighbor's yards and killing the ones they can catch. But then we have decomposing cat carcasses randomly thrown around our yards it's gross.

Keep your cats inside where they won't kill, f*ck other cats, or get killed  

That just sounds like you have a bigger gripe with irresponsible cat owners than the animal itself

Most cat owners I’ve met and become friends with agree that it’s harmful to have a cat free roam. Especially with all of the psychos that like to poison cats outside

The only time my cat gets a taste of the outside is with a harness where I can lead him and control where he goes

So having had cats & dogs I'll say this. 

Dogs are more time consuming as cats are a bit more independent. So if you are out of the house for a lot of the day etc where the dog will be on its own, I'd say a cat would be a better pet in that scenario.

I work from home, so I'm around most of the day. I like both dogs and cats, but I go for day hikes a lot, so I've been feeling more drawn to getting a dog so I could take them with me. I'm just worried because I live alone in an apartment and my landlord would go mental if a dog barked a lot when I have to go out for doctor's appointments or something
