She's been in her flop era for 9 years ? Time flies !

Spoiler

Seriously tho that song was better than the reception it got. Clumsy political message aside

Her American Life :enigma:

She deserved more success with this one in my opinion.

Some people think the government ruined her career because of how 'groundbreaking' and political this was. They think she was silenced because of its profound statement.

It's a good song to be fair, but the government did not flinch with this one :enigma:

Plus the era is kinda nostalgic now, it was so entertaining and messy af, even if I didn't care for the music

I think that was her first song not to go recurrent.

One of my favorite (even if smaller) joys about the Joanne era was how the KatyCats finally had to shut up.

Million Reasons had humble success, and is close to 1 Billion streams, while CTTR had a strong frontload and is still below 700 Mill in 2026. Her imperial phase was indeed over (even though I say that happened during PRISM’s later phases)

I do like CTTR as a song 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes of course lol, for all of Katy Perry's faults she did release a slew of back to back hits with her first few albums :huntyga:

Just nothing since...

The lead single from her best album, and I will die on this hill. People were mad that a woman wanted to break out of a box she was in (even though they asked for it), and then she had to suffer because of that.

Spoiler

We could also talk about how Katy being called out of touch was largely due to her being white, but people aren't ready for that conversation.

I enjoyed it at the time it was released. I remember being glad because she finally did something with deep meaning; it was a really well executed concept. At least, visually. I wouldn't revisit it nowadays, but props to her regardless
