I was reading a tweet that after ICE detained a 5 years old kid, part of dems funded them anyways? I don't understand what game are the opposition playing? Are they trying to suffocate people with this bullshit so they can be safely win the next election or what's going on? are there really an opposition?

I wonder what will happen first... US society collapses a.k.a civil war (I feel like Trump is testing limits in MN) or Trump death or World Cup 2026...?

"Slimy" centrists are who get elected to state-wide office, and make real change. Vermont is an exception because the whole state has a population less than that of the Omaha, Nebraska metropolitan area. And even Bernie hasn't passed much legislation in his decades in office besides renaming post offices.

Centrist democrats are where change and movement happens. They are the reason that the must-pass Apropriations bills this year, that contained the most anti-Trans riders (a rider is an unrelated provision tacked onto a bill) in history ended up having ZERO anti-Trans riders in the bills. They're in the minority in every government body, and still managed to defend LGBT rights until we can get back in the majority and make real  progress.

I'll argue until I'm blue in the face that "blue no matter who" is absolutely a necessity these days and anyone who's giving out purity tests when it's D vs R is an idiot.

But...a choice between the Democratic party establishment and Republicans (MAGA or otherwise) is basically "you're driving towards authoritarianism either way, do you press the brakes or the gas pedal". One is objectively better but neither is good.

Thankfully, there seems to be a small amount of momentum against the DNC and establishment Democrats within the party. I hope it pushes them to adopt more progressive policies but I also hope voters make the right choices in general elections regardless.

In the meantime, settling for the fact that they've stopped Republicans from passing ANYTHING anti-trans on the federal level ain't bad.

The same centrists who just extended ICE’s funding after the murder of Renee Gold? The same ones who rolled over on the ACA subsidies? Give me a break lmao.

I've been out of the loop on the subsidies, did we not get Republicans into a corner with those? At least temporarily?

As for the ICE funding, the Democratic party really needs to find it's identity for the topic of immigration.

I recently heard a lil sound bite of Obama's speech while campaigning in 2008 where he pushed for strict but humane enforcement and more available avenues for legal citizenship. I don't see why it's so hard to adopt that mindset and transform it into actionable policies focused on both security and humanity.

The American public hates the way ICE is acting but immigration remains one of the hottest issues (for some reason...personally, I think you should be able to move where you want and as long as you pay taxes and abide by the laws you're set but whatever). Reps think they can pull one over by waving their "blue lives matter" flag but that doesn't work when police themselves have had to stand in ICE's way.

Immigration was one of Biden's weakest points. Most Dems are terrified of looking weak on that front so they back ICE. Because they're spineless when it matters.

Best we can hope for is a churning within the party that doesn't cost us the finish line.

This has to be the death that starts ICE's and Trump's downfall... There's no way anything worse has to happen for them to face repercussions. It's getting ridiculous :saladga:

The president is a criminal and he got away with everything.

This is a lawless country being run by a criminal and half of the population is too brain dead/evil to realize it or care.

This country is a failed state and the only thing that can stop this is a general strike that collapses the economy temporarily.

We all know that’s not going to happen. This society has been engineered for decades to keep us divided.

Didn't you hear, they say he pointed his gun to agents and bit their fingers?!? No downfall is starting. This won't end with voting and neither with praying for someone to die. Just look at other countries like Turkey etc. This is just the beginning.

Slimy centrists get elected and increase the funding for ICE.

Biden in 2024 signed a spending bill giving ICE $3.4 billion to imprison 41,500 immigrants per day.

ICE was consistently expanded in the final 2 years of his presidency.

Look at the votes for the funding bill, babes. It was 220-207, with only 7 democrats voting in favor. The seven Democrats who sided with Republicans were Reps. Henry Cuellar (Texas), Jared Golden (Maine), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.), Laura Gillen (N.Y.), Don Davis (N.C.), Tom Suozzi (N.Y.) and Vicente Gonzalez (Texas). I'm not defending them or their votes. But you are vastly exaggerating where the Democratic party stands on this.

The proof exists. You just have to google it, love.

I'm not sure you're talking about the Biden bill, unless the vote happened to be the same in 2024 with the same Dems crossing to support it as the most recent House funding vote this month...

But if you are right what you've just told me, is that the bill could have been vetoed by Joe Biden and there was no risk of the veto being overriden because the House lacked a 2/3rds majority support for the bill.

Although looking at your selective quotation of my point, I think you're trying to avoid talking about Biden increasing ICE funding in 2023 and 2024.

Also on this.

I didnt say the Democratic party as a whole was the problem in response to you.

I said that the issue was slimy centrists.

You just named 7 slimy centrists.

And provided a perfect example of how those slimy centrists are the problem.

On a 220/207 split. If those 7 slimy centrists hadn't crossed the floor, the Ayes would have had 213 votes.

The noes would have had 214 votes.

This would have blocked the funding.

So yes. The issue is slimy centrists, and you just named 7 I hadn't named to compliment my example of the 2023 and 2024 ICE funding bills.

Watching these "agents" parade around like f*cking call of duty characters is so pathetic. Middle school bullies who fantasize about killing infidels and protecting the fatherland because their daddy wouldn't hug them incase it made them gay. The weakest sauce the human mind could possibly fathom. Cool truck bro!!!!!

Exhibit A: Centrists will hide behind social policy so that they don’t have to confront money in politics, growing inequality, rising cost of living, and the fact that our healthcare and food industries are captured by corporate greed. And at the end of the day, they WILL throw trans people under the bus when they are no longer politically convenient

“H.R. 3492, titled the “Protect Children’s Innocence Act” by its sponsor Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, passed by a vote of 216-211 in the House on December 17. Four Republicans broke with their party to vote against the bill, but three Democrats — Reps. Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, and Donald Davis of North Carolina — crossed party lines themselves to pass Greene’s bill out of the chamber.”

Oh look at that. The same 3 mother****ers who voted with 4 other slime balls to fund ICE.

It needs to be pre-9/11'ed. It used to be part of the larger DHS and wasn't militarized.

If we need to create a new agency to take on some of those pre 9/11 tasks then so be it, but ICE needs to be dismantled completely. It is clearly full of white supremacists. Any and all elements of that **** needs to be erased and can’t be allowed to permeate into the next phase of border enforcement.
