RAMROD 113,605
The state of Tennessee has declared January 19th, 2026, as Dolly Parton Day. In his proclamation, Governor Bill Lee wrote that the musician’s “extraordinary life and career have brought pride to the state of Tennessee,” specifically highlighting her philanthropic work through the Dollywood Foundation and the Imagination Library. This will align to Dolly's 80th birthday this Monday. https://consequence.net/2026/01/dolly-parton-day-declared-for-january-19th-in-tennessee/ (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ I'm gonna swim to the ocean floor (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡ 1 4

Ladle Ghoulash 36,626
The concept of Bill Lee honoring Dolly Parton while still being profoundly bigoted (anti-LGBTQ+, misogynistic, anti-choice etc) Absolutely blows my mind how conservatives love Dolly, yet conveniently ignore literally everything she stands for. We have forgotten our public MANNERS 4

It’s the beauty and brilliance of Dolly. Her approach to simply brining love and joy into our lives, regardless of our points of view, truly brings everyone together in some way. She sets an amazing example for us all, and there’s literally no other celeb out there that can do this. Edited January 19 by MACATL

I appreciate that she brings joy to a lot of people, but I do also think the folks that don’t really recognize her politics sort of miss a big part of her cultural contributions. Like how is the Gov of TN praising her for promoting literacy through the Imagination Library when schools are chronically underfunded in TN and the state ranks 31st nationally in education with no signs of improvement under his leadership? Idk, regardless of how wholesome Dolly herself is, there’s something tone deaf and/or hypocritical with folks like Lee trying to co-opt her image while implicitly rejecting her substance. It’s because she’s a quiet ally. She only speaks about things when asked and it works for her but that type of stance isn’t tolerated with modern day celebrities. Also just because she’s religious. Any person that’s straight and married and appears mostly normal while being mostly quiet on politics can claim to be Christian and then conservatives will immediately respect them. I see it all the time. Edited January 19 by TheARTPOPball

Dolly day is largely symbolic and a state holiday, MLK day is a federal holiday. Lots of holidays overlap. ¡Seguimos aquí!
