Luke78619 23,499
The first international queen crowned by Ru still should’ve been Marina, still salty about them editing her out of her lip sync against Hannah the audacity but so happy Gawdland won, I love kate Gawdland edged her out a little Edited Wednesday at 02:18 PM by Luke78619 insta: good_lukeing | I have nothing else to promote
Leography 393
Damn, I'll never see my favourites win the UKvsTW seasons, will I? Pangina, Marina, La Grande Dame, and now Kate But congrats to Gawdland! I don't agree with the judges finding her hillarious, but she truly devoured everything else! Her reaction to the result was so cute.

gagzus 18,294
Sorry for the rant. The one thing this season has made me SIGH so hard about is I really NEED veteran drag queens on DR. I’m sick of young queens disrespecting references (Sminty in this episode specifically) or coming onto a show where they have less than 10 years of experience, can buy nice outfits but can’t entertain for sh*t. (I’ve worked with a lot of the girls over the last 5 years and let me tell you about 90% of them are DULL af in person). I get that the drag race demo is mostly teens to mid 20 year olds who’s only reference for drag is this show but COME ON. Like this season SHOULDVE been Mariah’s from the get go she’s a veteran in drag and ballroom and closer to RuPaul’s age than Sminty say. And she lost to literal kids who’re all still baby queens Gawdland looked and performed great, but things like snatch game for instance she was horrid (making noise isn’t entertaining) and I’m tired af of this narrative that if it makes rupaul chuckle and you can do a crunchy dip you deserve to win. And considering how insane RuGirls make their booking fees in the current market it’s not worth it at all.

Also Gawdland’s dips were not crunchy and she’s pretty objectively a skilled queen, imo. That being said, I completely agree that they need more seasoned queens on DR in general and that drag culture needs to move away from becoming a closed loop of Drag Race references and social media influencer culture. Mandy Mango had been doing drag 2x longer than Violet was when she won, is she twice as polished? but love the sentiment

Mandy Mango had been doing drag 2x longer than Violet was when she won, is she twice as polished? but love the sentiment Yes? You’re basing this only off of drag race’s metrics that are pre established. In the real world Mandy absolutely is a more polished drag queen than Violet would’ve been at the time she was on drag race. If we’re time relative to when they were on the show she has had more performance experience, could probably host (violet still to this day is awful at that), knows the industry better etc. ppl have this delusion that nice drag that you spend money on = good drag. Also Ginger or Kennedy shouldve won Violet’s season but I digress. If they’re saying they’re finding the “next drag superstar” then they should be taking into account what the girls can do irl as well. I’ve applied and they basically wanna see what you’re like irl without a camera on you. Yes they need reality tv archetypes but they SHOULD be vetting girls who are only 2 years into their career and chopped af with a good coin purse. Like I said above, I’ve worked with some of the girls from various franchises and the BEST ones who can perform, host, make their own stuff to a degree (which atp should also be vetted for the show) and are nice people aren’t the biggest names and are pretty early outs or non winners. And the well loved ones are awful queens but good business people- and don’t get me started on the ones who clearly wanted to just do drag bc they thought it would make them famous / replace the fact they failed as a theatre kid as a fellow queen I feel very strongly about all this, especially since some of the best queens the show has seen are older vets or have paid their dues beforehand. I’m so over the skinny twinks with a credit card being cast.

I think otherwise tbh Mariah was very much an individual and deserved better, it’s just the edit that makes her wins and things feel flat she’s not a C+P queen which most of the other queens on the franchises tend to be ESPECIALLY the US franchise. You can literally see which queens from the franchises they’re trying to replicate, but I agree with you about Gawdland she was very entertaining mostly but for my tastes at least she was just not better than some of her competitors but I guess she made RuPaul chuckle a bit so that’s all that matters. But as a vet queen myself I can see a lot of growth they all still need to do.

Also on a second note did we see that apparently Shane Dawson has started drag and applied for next season i pray they don’t fall into the trap of a controversial casting.

I’m so over the skinny twinks with a credit card being cast. I mean, it’s complicated because the whole premise of the show is that it is a reality competition show with its own expectations and parameters, so if a queen can’t successfully perform in that format, they’re not going to do well in the competition. I completely agree that Drag Race is by no means the be all end all (hell, Tammie Brown is one of my favorite queens of all time and there’s no world where she wins Drag Race) and that people shouldn’t be assessing the overall value of a queen via their performance on Drag Race, but the inverse is also true: I don’t see any reason to say that who a queen is outside of the competition should have any bearing on their performance if they aren’t performing particularly well in the competition. I think, more than anything, we need more higher profile drag platforms so people can see DR for what it is: *one way* to make a name for yourself as a drag performer, but not necessarily the industry standard bearer. Takes a lot of work and effort, regardless of age
