ALGAYDO 34,610
Her talking voice is so soothing, I need her to start her own podcast when she takes a break from music while focusing on being a mom 1
monstertoronto 11,345
Everyone who is like saying she’s lying and or dragging the list because they personally don’t recognize any of the songs. Gaga is almost 40 years old. How old are y’all? Do you really expect a 40 year old woman who grew up in New York to have the same musical influences as for example any gay twink in the suburbs just because the twink happens to love her music today? Everyone will have their own musical history. And she was not asked to say what music she listens to now, but to document the songs that tell the story of her whole life, or were meaningful to her throughout her life. He choices are so thoughtful and illuminating. Hearing her talk about how “I was born this way” influenced her own song BTW made me listen to both songs and appreciate BTW even more. Hearing her talk about Springsteen’s influence on her music made me really think about her storytelling style on You and I, Hair, snd Speechless. Her mentioning Stevie Wonder Superstition inspiring some of Mayhem was nice confirmation of the influence on songs like Killah. I listened to all the songs on a playlist and although I wasn't familiar with all of them, I could hear how they had influenced different parts of her music and career. It really feels like she took the assignment seriously and actually shared something meaningful about her life and has give us a way to get to know her even better through these songs. She did such a great job, let’s appreciate it! Edited December 17, 2025 by monstertoronto 3
casualmonster 41
I absolutely love this interview! It's always really nice to hear her go through her influences and she probably went through a little nostalgia trip during that moment. You can definitely tell she actually went back to some of these songs for inspiration of MAYHEM. Gaga introduced me to Thunder Road and I absolutely love that song! Think it was one of the interviews during the BTW era. She was already listing Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder as influences back then. I actually really like the songs she shared, so I'm definitely going to listen to them. Also, even based on the few seconds played in the video, you can hear the "Gaga" in these songs. I wonder if she may want to dig deeper into these influences for her next few records.

zevthepaparazzo 2,240
GADDA DA VIDA MENTIONED also that fluffy sounding synth in the intro and outro sounds similar to a garageband midi sound "Shelburne Road Anthem Synth" Anything goes! Sneaky Oliver 22,859
I can’t help but wonder why we didn’t get all this music in Joanne. It felt at the time she was going to bring back her initial music inspiration into LG5, her pre-Lady Gaga sound, and when we discovered that Mark Ronsom, Kevin Parker, Father John Misty and Beck himself were on board for the album, I was 100% sure we were heading into Lady Gaga’s psychedelic glam rock album. Even though I love Joanne for what it is, I do feel now that it was a little lackluster musically. With Mayhem, I think she successfully managed to incorporate her musical inspirations into her songs without trying to emulate the music that inspired her and staying true to her own sound, had she done that for Joanne as well, it could’ve been a lot more rich and inspired and authentic record
Ezikell 64
I'm surprised she mentioned J*st*n Tr*nt*r after his comments a few years ago. Nevertheless, an amazing list though I'm honestly kinda sad this wasn't the direction Joanne went with since her references are so cool and that album just feels lacking and could've used references like the songs she mentioned. TailoredGuilts 363
LOVE this interview! Am I the only one who could immediately hear/ connect the influence of each song and how it tied to her own catalog?! Soooo satisfying and love to hear this side of Gaga talking about her passion for music influences and where they stem from. I’m all warm and fuzzy inside after this. What a dream it would be to just chill with Gaga and have a glass or a few of whiskey and listen to her fave music and chat about it like this.
