Miley Cyrus reveals that Trump reached out to her after 2013 VMAs performance

Miley has revealed that the US President comforted her after her infamous 2013 MTV VMAs performance. The performance led to the former Hannah Montana star being slammed by prudish bores who branded it inappropriate.

On a recent episode of the Awards Chatter podcast Miley said: “It’s never been about that expectation of reaction for me.

“My mum is often the brains behind the crazy things.

“But it was all my idea and mum really supported it.

“I didn’t know what the big deal was and never thought it was a big deal until I woke up the next day.

“I was staying at the Trump hotel and Trump sent me a message saying, ‘Don’t let them get you down.’”

Surely Cyrus knew that that performance would provoke widespread backlash from many — including parents whose kids regarded Cyrus as a role model — as it did? And surely she wanted a reaction? “It’s never been about that expectation of reaction for me,” she insists. “My mom is somehow the brains behind all the crazy things that people go, ‘How could her mother let her do that?!’ It’s like, ‘It was her idea!’ [Actually,] it was all my idea, but my mom just really supported it. I wasn’t really going for the reaction so much. What I cared about most was that teddy bear! I was, like, obsessed with it. I wanted to work with this artist, Todd James, who made it and made all the costumes. Again, I was focused on the creative part.”

Cyrus says that she was actually oblivious to the controversy that she had caused until Donald Trump, of all people, reached out to her: “I didn’t know what the big deal was, and never thought it was a big deal, until I woke up the next day. I was staying at the Trump hotel and Trump sent me a message that said, ‘Don’t let them get you down,’ and I was like, ‘But why would I be down?’ And then I turned on the TV and I was like, ‘Oh, because everyone in the world is making fun of me.'”

There is no suggestion she supports him based on this conversation. She’s just saying she was oblivious to any sort of controversial reaction to her performance until someone like Trump messaged her. She wasn’t singing him praises. If you listen to the podcast, even the interviewer was laughing at this anecdote.

This is like taking that one small quote from David Corenswet and trying to blow it up into something.

There's always two types of misogynist men: the ones who want women to cover every inch of their skin and the ones who love when they show off every possible angle. Spectacle through intimacy and privacy or sensuality and scandal. I guess Trump falls into the latter!
