Not The Real Gaga

I haven't watched the full interview, so maybe I miss some context, but couldn't his statement also be positive? Like we are so used to seeing women carried by men, and now we see when it's switched around, men aren't less masculine?

Ugh, reminds me of straight guys that compliment gay guys just because they're "straight passing". Masculinity is not something that should be celebrated, while femininity isn't. Both are worth celebrating.

You can tell how uncomfortable Jonathan is lol I never heard of this other actor before but his views are very outdated and should be criticized and corrected. I know he wanted to make a compliment discussing Jonathans masculinity as a gay actor in the context of the power dynamics between a man and a woman, but it comes of very wrong.

I mean if he thinks you look powerless therefore not manly with someone making you fly like a rag doll... Shouldn't it be with both women and men ?

Having a specific issue with that done by a woman cause it makes a girl character stronger than a male one is weirdly insecure in a way...

We just talk about witches in a movie after all lol.

People were saying the same about the end of the latest Matrix movie too

There was My Super Ex-Girlfriend though and didn't hear complaints about that at the time, just people wishing they were the guy

Omg its not that deep people need to relax. He is not saying he thinks it's not masculine but a lot of men wouldn't which is true. That's just the world we live in. He is complementary of how masculine he looks regardless, the comment before us not a big deal. We really need to start accepting that'd diversity in opinion can and does exist

This. Thank you for actually thinking more than layer deep.

Eh I read this less as his take and more on an understanding of how men genuinely operate bc guys DO think this way and remember gay people, he’s straight so he knows the straight guys well.

Like sorry but how tf is a straight guy in musical theater really going to have backward takes like that? Let’s use our brains and reading skills

This was the least controversial controversy I've ever heard. He didn't say anything wrong and was truthful in his description of masculinity.

Some people need to stop thinking masculinity is inherently bad. Its not. And what he said was not toxic in any way

Agreed. What a weird take from social media (surprise surprise).

90% of men are staight masculine men

this notion that masculinity and heternormativity are under attack are simply FALSE

just cuz gay and anti toxic masc rhetoric is more exposed now, does not take away from the fact that 90% of the world still subscribe to traditional masculinity - most men are straight, beer loving, woman objectifying frat bros.

what david said was ignorant and weird - he basically said "oh you had a hard job preserving your masculinity because you were being levitated by a female character - how were u able to still be manly in that situation". yall are only defending him cuz hes hot, if an ugly man said this - ppl would be calling it out as plain ignorance. its not that big of a deal. i dont think he was being malicious but it still proves how privileged he is and that he operates from a toxic masculine headspace where he views men as the lead and that if a woman is the focus, then that emasculates or devalues the male character.

Bit of a freak statement but yeah, I agree with the people saying others should chill.

He's straight, no? Your expectations have to lower accordingly :diane:
