The whole "forbidden queer love" dynamic is really powerful and takes me back to my early teens when I was in my small country home town where there were no out people in High School. I would lie to my parents every weekend and tell them I was spending the night with my friend for the weekend, when in reality I was driving nearly 2 hours away in my shitty 90's work truck with no AC to go see my first boyfriend at the time. Anyway, all this to say that this series is a very relatable queer story regardless of your personal experiences, I think a lot of people will connect with this love story. I’m sorry to be a Negative Nancy but the story is pretty thin & the chemistry is lukewarm at best. The texting montages are more exciting/adorable/compelling/erotic than any of the sequences of the two men together (being intimate or otherwise). I know the hot/cold dynamic is part of it, but still. The most interesting stuff has been Ilya’s dad & his cognitive problems.
