Honestly, its not groundbreaking as plenty of other queer romantic series have existed over the years. But I think what is groundbreaking is that its a mainstream series focusing on sport. That is relatively new ground for tv audiences. The NHL has a very bad recent track record with LGBT issues as a governing org sadly. It helps immensely if you’ve read the book prior to the series in my opinion, they’ve given them 5 episodes to fit an entire book into so its inevitably going to have pacing issues, but it remains very faithful to the book, and the actors are absolutely killing it with their emotions and intimacy (outside of the sex scenes….
