Honestly, its not groundbreaking as plenty of other queer romantic series have existed over the years. But I think what is groundbreaking is that its a mainstream series focusing on sport. That is relatively new ground for tv audiences. Especially in a sport like Hockey where there's never been a gay player, not even ones who come out after retirement. The NHL has a very bad recent track record with LGBT issues as a governing org sadly. But from what little I see as its not a sport I follow, there's way more straight identified players prepared to fight the bullshit than you see in a lot of other sports which is great. It helps immensely if you’ve read the book prior to the series in my opinion, they’ve given them 5 episodes to fit an entire book into so its inevitably going to have pacing issues, but it remains very faithful to the book, and the actors are absolutely killing it with their emotions and intimacy (outside of the sex scenes….
