I feel like Gaga plays safe “by the book”.

maybe because of her contract like someone says or something else

Nah. She just doesn't care now about the prices, let's be honest. She could have put a stop to the ticket prices being so ridiculously high

But surely it is not the artist who profits more from this but the scalpers themselves?

Like I understand that artists should do stuff like this to make it affordable for true fans but by not doing it doesn’t mean they’re going to profit more.

Or am I being dumb?

Whether Gaga is capable of intervening to change things is one of the questions.
That shouldn't stop her from giving us some explanations about it, I think.
It would dispel doubts and avoid wasting time on speculation.

Late to the party but I got a diamond heart

A bunch of my friends finally thought they were going to get to see Gaga after so many years, but when they saw nosebleeds selling for $250 face value, they were so disappointed because they knew they weren’t going to be able to afford anything. It really is sad that so many new and long-time Gaga fans are being priced out of seeing her best tour, while tons of wealthy locals who only know Poker Face are packing the arenas.

Taylor refused to do dynamic pricing, Beyonce didn't even though she could because she is more greedy.

Are her resales capped as well?

Regardless, her marketing itself is predatory. Full of that false scarcity "BUY NOW WHILE SUPPLIES LAST" crap, and it's never even worth people buying their fifth or sixth copy. It's just plain abuse of the people that look up to her.

I'm glad Gaga hasn't fallen that far.

Yet :saladga:

Ticketmaster gets a cut and I'm sure the artist gets one as well. But if they didn't, wouldn't that be lowkey worse? You just let your fans get got like that and you don't even gain a cent from it? Ew...

This gives me hope.
After trying time and time again to obtain Mayhem Ball tickets at a fair price, i concluded i may not get to go to a concert ever again.

I hope this is a step in the right direction. Shame on all of these greedy artists. As if our governments and billionaire companies arent exploiting us enough as it is.

I’m happy as a consumer that tickets are gonna be capped HOWEVER, to play Devil’s Advocate for a second.

Olivia isn’t as big as Beyoncé or Gaga or Taylor and doesn’t need to pay for literally HUNDREDS upto THOUSANDS of people around their tour. Every person from the gay who grabs coffee for the girlies who get them a bottle of water, to their makeup artists and the costume houses that are renting or making custom pieces for them.

So they aren’t gonna be bothered if their tour sells out and then those tickets are resold for 10x the price because the money from the original tickets has helped them pay people.

I also don’t believe that ALL big artists aren’t bothered about their fans being ripped off, BUT they’re also multi millionaires to BILLIONAIRES so it’s also hard for them to be in touch.

tldr; I’m happy the uk is taking a stand against touting, but I sadly can’t see it fully happening. People will just start selling them through other measures like Facebook Marketplace for example.

Very this, I haven’t managed to see Gaga live since 2014 because of ticket pricing and CBT and now Mayhem tickets are getting more expensive as a base but then touted tickets are even more expensive.

I think when I FINALLY had money to pay for a ticket after they had been sold it was gonna cost almost £1k to be at the best side of stage, where as they were originally sold for like £200 I believe

In a statement, Michael Rapino, CEO of Ticketmaster’s parent company Live Nation Entertainment, said: “We share Olivia’s desire to keep live music accessible and ensure fans have the best access to affordable tickets."

The sheer hypocrisy of this statement...........

That being said, the situation is also not that black and white. Sure, big artists are benefitting from this unfair practice, but we should also keep in mind that ticket and merch prices ballooned while physical record sales declined... There was a not so distant time when it wasn't unusual for big artists to sell millions of records. Now, they're pretty happy if they sell tens of thousands. The business model of doing big promo and touring massive shows can't be sustained with streaming only.

So, sure, it sucks that we have to pay so much to see our faves live. But people made their bed when they chose streaming over physical, and now they have to lie in it

“Ticketmaster initially replied: “We support artists’ ability to set the terms of how their tickets are sold and resold. @OliviaDeano, we will cap resale prices on our site at face value and hope other resale sites will follow.”

Why don’t they just do this for all ticket sales? If they can cap resale prices for one artist why can’t that be the default?
