Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia announced on Friday night that she will resign her seat in the House of Representatives effective Jan. 5.

Greene's announcement, in a video and statement posted on X, came after a dramatic break with President Donald Trump.

Greene faced criticism from Trump for supporting a bill to compel the Department of Justice to release investigative files about Jeffrey Epstein, the notorious sex offender.

GOOD. Idc about her sudden moment of "clarity"; she's grifting. I have little faith that her district will replace her with someone reasonable but I hope the next one is at least semi-sane.

I do appreciate the kindness approach do not get it twisted, but MTG is horrible. I don't know if I can forgive her. She has spread stochastic terrorist lies about LGBTQ+ people, shilled for dictators (not just wannabe ones like Trump), supported PDF Files, made crazy and evil conspiracies, etc. The best thing is to let her cause division, but let's not uplift her. (And this is no shade to you for saying this! This is moreso me calling out MTG for being evil.)

I'm so tired of wishing for the death of another human being every time I see Trump on the news lol... I want to believe I am a better person than that but I just know he is too stupid to ever understand and everyone in his rich circle are so out of touch. But he wants us all exhausted so we stop paying attention, and we need to keep fighting it however we can. If the US survives this, I want to be able to tell my grandchildren I was on the right side of history and took an active role in fighting this administration! (Going to protests, speaking at education conferences, reaching out to my local politicians, etc.)

I HATED her for so long and still didn't really support her except I could reconcile with the fact she was standing up for victims of a sex abuser and trying to still appeal to her district which is mostly conservatives. 

I am actually a bit upset that she is resigning only because I now fear this is going to enable Trump to think he can kick out more republicans who are trying to stand up to him. She is not a representative of my state and so it really won't affect me- but I hope that republicans who are against Trump's policies will not be afraid to stand up to him in future settings. 

Edit: I do not stand by or support a majority of the republican ideology, but still have faith that somewhere along the way there can be someone moderate or at least capable of being checked! Having lived in Virginia for all my life, I have at least met people with different political views than me but who can be reasoned with and change part of their views once learning the empathetic side of the issue

I'm only glad she stood up for the epstein victims but still couldn't trust that she wasn't doing it to get herself geared up for a higher position in politics!
