What would Gaga's breakthrough success look like in 2025?

Yaaaas Gaga

2008-2011 was Gaga's time. She was so utterly dominant during this period and there was simply no escaping her whether you liked her music or not. Not only was she achieving hit after hit and racking up record-breaking sales figures, there was just an aura about her that set her so far apart from her contemporaries.

The music landscape is so drastically different today to what it was back in late 2008/early 2009 when Gaga had her major breakthrough and I just wondered what you think her global dominance from 2008-2011 would look like in today's music scene?

Just to be clear, this isn't a question of whether 2008-2011 Gaga would be successful in today's music landscape, but instead trying to translate her success from 15 years ago into a modern version of that (hope that makes sense).

Would be interest to hear your thoughts.

I think it would be similar in many ways, but digitized. Similar to chappell roan. Her live performances would get around probably faster, paparazzi at the vmas would be extremely refreshing and still as unique today as it was then. I think her fanbase would be more targeted and less generalized due to how we consume music now. Meaning i dont think certain people would be reached with her music at all, and she would likely have more niche fans that stick with her throughout the ARTPOP, Joanne eras. Unfortunately though we would probably see more of an influencer style gaga, since thats pretty much what pop stars are these days. Assuming all her materials and actions stay constant though, i think there would be a lot more chronically online people blowing the controversies even more so out of the water than before. Wed see a lot more brand deals, and in your face advertising. I assume it would be a lot like taylor swift now, just with gaga. Which i think would be good. No slander to taylor intended. But taylor level success with gaga level talent, in todays time, would be nearly inescapable

I mean. Everything's different so it's tough to even speculate about that. I'm also not entirely sure what the question is :bear:

"Flash in the pan" artists are becoming more and more common. Chappell Roan was inescapable not too long ago and now I never hear her name or music outside of GGD. Could say the same for a dozen or more artists that had a trendy song or randomly got a load of attention then fell off almost as fast. I have to imagine it'd be the same with Gaga despite how talented she is.

She'd probably be relegated to a "one hit wonder" GP wise with a song like Shallow or Abracadabra but a loyal core fanbase would definitely be found and even if she never had a hit the size of some of her current hits, her shows would sell out and she'd be fine.

You're stinky

Maybe not a hot-take but if she were breaking through as Gaga now and we still had all the other artists before/now, I wonder if she would get dragged for "copying" a lot more or if it would take longer for people to appreciate her talent. People have such short attention spans and so she would sustain for a bit with all the different changes and theatrics she had at the start of her career... but I fear she would drop off because people would move on too fast.

Needless to say- we are LUCKY she blew up earlier because she is clearly a generational artist and will sustain

It's difficult to say because she literally changed the world so much back then. Just look at how other pop stars looked and sounded before she hit the scene. Her music videos changed Youtube. Her social media changed Twitter. You can't just move her success and influence to another point in time without accounting for what's lost when she's not the one influencing everyone.

In a way I feel like success nowadays is very much about Spotify numbers and TikTok viral moments, so she'd rule those 2 apps

Think it would be the opposite since now "copying" is basically everybody's style. :ladyhaha:

Seriously they all are inspired like crazy and owning it so folks would care less now imo.

She would probably post a lot of fashion and performances on TikTok, endless photoshoots and selfies on Instagram.

Obviously, she’d be dragging (if not threatening) Trump publicly 24/7. She’d definitely be working on how to use her voice for Palestine, as the most influential person in the world.

Facebook would be saturated with posts and articles about her and how attention seeking she is, and all these old MAGAsses would destroy her in the comments.

FAME (the fragrance) would’ve been much more enventful culturally.

Based on culture right now (unless a big shift happens soon), ARTPOP (2030) would be received just like 143 or even worse with DWUW.

All I'll say is that we're lucky the DWUW thing happened back then and not now.

Also, with how much she influenced and changed the industry back then, it's almost impossible to think how it would be if Gaga was starting her career now... What would've happened musically and culturally between 2008 and 2025 without the changes that happened because they saw the success someone like Gaga could have? It's like erasing 2009-2013 completely

I'm praying it never comes back in any significant way. If Gaga and Michael know what's good for them, they'll make sure it stays buried. It's a miracle she's still so favorable after the Pizzagate and R Kelly BS that already happened.

What does Gaga have to do with Pizzagate?

We have forgotten our public MANNERS

I guess I meant the way she was dragged by some for "copying madonna" could possibly have been equivalent to her being dragged as an artist in today's world... but she is also so unique that a part of me thinks she would somehow continue to stand out.

But yes- I guess since copying is a style then if she was just starting then she would blow up!
