RochestrMonstr 3,357
I think Avril Lavigne’s (very successful) first three albums are less good than her next three that followed (which were far less successful). I think my problem with her is that she sings way too slow for my taste? (I know she's got something upbeat tracks, tho) Like I simply can't get along with it. Also I feel like she's developed a very specific style where people listen to her because it's her, somehow like a talented Taylor type of artist I liked her debut album and parts of Honeymoon when she went a bit more pop or at least the production was poppier. But otherwise, I can like recognise the talent and skill behind all her work. I just can't listen to em 😅 they just don't scratch any itch for me.

Super 1,046
emotion by carly rae. its just regular 2015 pop music, i dont get the appeal. taylor swift at that time could release the same album (see New Romantics) and i doubt people would praise it the same way. Anderson123 39,023 Posted yesterday at 05:37 AM Share Posted yesterday at 05:37 AM I'm surprised so many people disliked Melodrama. It's one of my favorite albums ever but I completely understand it. Brat is a fun album and I did like it but got EXHAUSTED of it after a while. Other than Von Dutch, 365 and Guess with Billie I don't listen to it that much. I like Charli and she has done some great pop music but that 90+ metacritic score and Fantano's 10/10 review got me like "Really??" Brat is fun and it was a moment in pop culture but some songs get repetitive really fast.
StrawberryBlond 14,962
Brat - Very few lyrics, overly repetitive, not a great singing voice, nothing I've never heard before but praised by critics and public alike as if it's groundbreaking. A 95 on MC is ridiculously difficult to get and this is what got it?! It doesn't sound unlike what Charli's made for a long time and to see older critics go gaga over this very basic stuff has been nothing short of head-scratching. To be fair, I just found out that the remix collab album is very different versions of the original tracks and Sympathy Is A Knife already sounded better for it so maybe I'll listen to that in full for a better time. Short n' Sweet - Halfway decent but nothing more. I have no idea why this woman is being praised like she's some kind of lyrical genius when innuendo laden lyrics are nothing new and have been done just as good if not better by others. Her new album is even more mediocre version of the same style and it seems like she's ultimately just a one trick pony. West End Girl - Lily's worst album by a longshot. Interesting subject matter, unlistenable songs. To tell as a story, fair enough, but put into song, it simply doesn't work and is music you can't do anything with. Confessions On a Dancefloor - I've tried to understand what pop fans have been seeing in this bland album for years but can't do it. I like about 2 songs on it. I also stand by the fact that anyone who says Erotica is such a hot album is only remembering it through rose tinted glasses and hasn't actually heard it in years because only about 2 songs on that album are explicitly about sex. Almost all of Harry Styles albums. His first album was decent but ever since, he just became experimental and pretentious. I stand by my belief that his fans wouldn't be listening to this kind of music if they weren't attracted to him. He's really lucky he's so handsome because I don't think this music would be in such heavy rotation if he weren't, particularly that bore-fest, As It Was, which saw all those weeks at the top. Most of Beyonce's overhyped later works. Her music is decent at best and she has some outstanding songs on every album but as complete bodies of work, they're far from masterpieces and far too long. Adele's albums. So ordinary and yet praised to high heaven. Luckily, the more muted reception to her last album is evidence that the scales are starting to fall from the public's eyes and they're beginning to realise she just broke out at the right time so she seemed to be a breath of fresh air next to autotuned dance pop. But now it's clear she can only make one style and just does it over and over. Taylor's albums. Probably the most overrated singer of all time. Something must have have happened to make those critics scores for The Life of a Showgirl to get out the 60's and just scrape a 70 because it was going down and down until there was a last minute 9/10 from PopMatters.

I think part of what made brat so successful, aside from its virality and catchiness, was its rawness. Coming off of Crash (an album and era Charli intentionally created to be commercially appealing, and arguably bland by Charli standards, as possible.) it was pretty much a complete 180. A reintroduction to the GP as to who exactly Charli is. 。゚☁ glued up, sometimes it's too much ☁ ゚。
DrKindnessKunt1999 6,194
I can’t lie, I tried listening to Renaissance, Lemonade, and Cowboy Carter, but I couldn’t get into the albums. For Renaissance, I only got into Break my Soul and Alien Superstar. I think it was my fault because I expected an album full of dance music. Anything tropical house/trap-y/faux R&B, isn’t for me. So Glory by Britney Spears and a lot of Zara Larson’s music pre-Midnight Summer. I tried getting into Tate McRae before her controversies because I was excited to see a pop star closer to my age, but I only liked Sports Car and Tik for Tak. Adele is lovely and talented, but I’m not into ballad albums.
