Lack of magazine covers?

I know in this bigger picture it’s not a big deal, but does anyone else think it’s strange how Gaga has only covered one magazine for this era? Like it’s strange how lots of other artists are covering fashion/music publications but Gaga only got Elle.

She was on the cover of Vogue last October, pretty big deal

That was for Joker 2, we need a new one for this era! :messga:

... why should she tho? It's 2025

I thinks it’s a good way to promote the era and work with new creatives.

There's nothing to promote for her. She's currently on a world tour that sold out in less than 5 minutes, her team is campaigning for her Grammy win, she released 3(4) music videos this era and she's probably working on 3 projects as we speak in various developing stages.
Mayhem has been promoted. She sang for 2.5M people and live streamed two weekends of Coachella. Some people on this forum should start enjoying more what they have and focus less on the things they feel entitled to :bye::vegas:

When did I say I was entitled to it or she needs to do it? I simply just said other artists are doing covers for there era and I wish Gaga had one or two more. Calm down 🙄

Are magazines even culturally relevant any more?

Feels like every time I read about the magazine industry or any print industry it's about it dying off slowly

I don’t think magazines are dying. People have being saying this for well over two decades now and they are still very much alive. The bigger publications aren’t what they used to be, of course. The likes of Vogue are reducing the number of issues and have fewer advertisers these days. But there continues to be new and independent magazines being published.

I don’t think print will ever die out completely, it will just become more niche. There will always be a counter reaction to everything becoming digital with people wanting physical media. When e-readers were released, people thought books would become a thing of the past, but that never happened.

I used to buy a lot of magazines every month. Not so much these days. I still love magazines, but I’m just more selective about what I buy. Acne Paper, Luncheon, Holiday, Gentlewomen, Fantastic Man are all great. Acne Paper is pretty pricey, but I think they’re worth it because they have great features, each issue has a different theme, the quality is great. They become things you sort of collect.

I mean, when it comes to big publications there aren’t as many around anymore. Gaga has pretty much covered all the big ones (excluding Interview Magazine and Vogue France) and there’s only a handful of big photographers she hasn’t worked with.

I don’t know I just would like to see her cover a magazine again and to have some new high fashion looks, even if magazines aren’t that big of a deal anymore.

I mean you kind of prove my point about the decline of print media and its loss of cultural impact.
Even you, someone who is a clear lover of the medium, have reduced your intake and limited what publications you interact with. That's not the sign of a healthy industry if a loyal consumer is taking steps to reduce their consumption.

I mean, I want to see more high fashion looks and photoshoots. But I just don't think that the older avenues of magazine covers and spreads are the vehicle to do that with anymore.

Maybe its just because of who has done it in recent memory, but what we have been getting from the traditional mags for that type of content has been increasingly pedestrian and disjointed from the era they were promoting.

Honestly, I'm really praying that in the next album era we get a full collection of fully realised visualisers for the album like what Miley Cyrus & JADE put out this year. It's short of a full music video, but it allows for a high fashion and conceptualised presentation that is relevant to the era.

I do find it beyond crazy that as we as a society have increasingly become orientated around visual content, the music industry has increasingly abandoned it's visual content outside of live events.

I think it depends on who the team is, I will say the Elle Magazine spread wasn’t a great representation of the MAYHEM era in terms of fashion and visuals. I could imagine if she was going to do another photoshoot it would be quite tame and basic as the big publications rarely make any avant garde covers or shoots anymore.

I think the decline of magazines also align with the decline in creativity and quality in fashion. There is a major reckoning happening right now in the fashion industry with the decline in quality and creativity, the rise in pricing that has priced out aspiration shoppers. There were like 15+ new creative directors making their debut this season. I don't want to get too off topic, but I think there is a larger discussion that could be had about the entire industry.

The fashion industry itself is seeing a loss in their cultural impact. Mathieu Blaze of Chanel recently said something that really encapsulates the current state of the industry: "What needs to be done is a deep work on what fashion stands for. Who is it for? What do we want? Is it media nowadays? Did fashion become media? Fashion brands play the role of the patron these days. They give money to cultural centres... Everything cannot be done just by communication, image, putting something on a celebrity. Of course, yes, but focus on the product and the story that is told. I think we are at a stage where fashion needs to re-imagine its own narrative. Luxury is not enough anymore. It’s expensive and it’s rare, so it’s good? That’s not enough.”

By extension, yes, I think fashion magazine have also lost the cultural impact. TikTokers are more influential these days and are the ones that seem to be dictating trends. There is no need to pick up a copy of Vogue to see what is in trend. The likes of Vogues and Harpers etc. are definitely dying their last breath. But my original point is that you can still find great work being produced in niche magazines and print media won't ever fully die out. They may not have the same cultural impact worthy of a pop star's promo era, but they definitely do have their own small sub communities! Like Japanese magazines on style are pretty popular right now and they continue to influence western trends. If anyone wants to see great works being produced, Chinese fashion magazines are where it's at!
