Anderson123 38,996
A beautiful album that came at the right time in her career. I appreciate that she showed this personal side of her and it has a lot of great songs but I had to force myself to like it because it just wasn’t a project I liked that much. Even right now I see myself coming back to Harlequin and A Star Is Born more than Joanne but it’s still a very special album. It was also a great era, promo was everywhere and the Dive Bar Tour was amazing, Superbowl etc. Perfect Illusion, John Wayne, Sinner’s Prayer, Angel Down and Million Reasons are my favorites from this project.
AVeryGagaHolyDick 26,470
It's probably the Gaga album I feel the most nostalgic about, other than her jazz albums, probably 'cause I don't listen to it a lot despite really liking it, I have to be in a particular mood for it. But it really is a precious time capsule, and I know Harlequin will be as well. I will never understand the hate for A-YO, it's perfect to me. And it's (or was) Gaga's favorite song from the album. Same for Hey Girl, I understand that it's not the huge iconic collaboration some people hoped for, but Florence isn't particularily a huge iconic artist either (sorry, I love her, but it is what it is) and Hey Girl's production is out of this world. Fun fact: The Fame Monster, Joanne and MAYHEM approximately took the same amount of time to make.
27monster27 13,918
This was my first full era is a fan. Joanne really is a nice album, and contrary to what people say it actually was very high risk for an artist associated with dance-pop and electro-pop to go into a stripped down country direction. That's why I love Lady Gaga. She always went high-risk even if it was considered a bad idea. he/him/his
MercifulAir 862
I’ve lived through every era of Lady Gaga, but Joanne holds a very unique place in my heart. It wasn’t the album I expected or necessarily wanted for the LG5 era, but it became the album I needed. It arrived at a time when I had just ended my first relationship of five years, and songs like Sinner’s Prayer and Million Reasons became a kind of refuge for me. As I started dating again and rediscovering myself, Dancin’ in Circles, John Wayne, and A-Yo became the soundtrack to my reckless joy. When my grandmother passed a few days after the piano version of Joanne was released, that song became a tragically beautiful gift, one that helped me grieve and, ultimately, return to the piano. I’ve since learned to play every song on the album (and for the record, Dancin’ in Circles is incredible acoustically). Joanne will always feel timeless to me. When I listen now, I’m transported back to a wild, emotional, and transformative chapter of my life…one I can finally look back on with a smile.

Calling it country is as reductive as calling Mayhem disco-funk. Exactly! And if I may add, it’s as reductive as calling Harlequin a jazz album. Also I appreciate your inputs on this site generally speaking

I think I saw you saying MAYHEM is your second or third, which makes me think how great it is that our fave continues to make music that connects with our hearts. EART HL I NG 502
Overhated. Underrated. The biggest sonic shift in her discography and regardless of what popular opinion of this album is, it’s such a great record and imo gets better with every listen. After being a LM since 2008/9, this was the era I finally got to see her live (and still the only time). I loved the show and the album has become really nostalgic for me. xoxo

She already had the formula for success and could have tried to replicate it, however she decided to go down a path that wasn't guaranteed but instead reflected her own truth. Joanne is consistent with who she was at her core and it’s the authentic representation of her internal values and beliefs. I can only admire Gaga's artistic integrity.
