I think she was fair - I kind of see her point.  BUT, that said,  I still feel if U don’t have anything nice or uplifting to say, zip it.  No need to spread negativity.   This could have been her “beautiful gowns” moment for Gaga.

I don’t think “soulless” or “empty vessel” are especially fair lmao

I think Gaga came across as someone playing dress up for attention for a while though.  Just being honest.

Eh, I think it was always pretty clear if you actually listened to what she said in interviews that she had substance, but we’ll agree to disagree.

she was probably one of the only pop girls who was actually genuinely interested and educated in art and fashion, whilst the others just hot glued plastic and feathers and garbage to their outfits in a feeble attempt to bank in on the gaga craze

mother, what must i do?

They were rude but I could also understand where you would get an impression along those lines when someone who is a huge fan of yours meets you bc they may come with a lot of humility and “emptiness” wanting to hold space for you and your genius which is *very Gaga. But they were rude comments to make all the same

It's not because she's an artist that other shouldn't take inspo from her... This is ridiculous... There's no art without mimetism. And did Grace Jones revolutionned Pop music ? Not at all.

Experiment =/= revolution

And tbh it's not like if art wasn't something subjective, one's artist opinion shouldn' t be taken too seriously. They have their vision of art... Art critics have maybe more credibility and are maybe more scientific... But again they're super subjective too.

Btw Bowie never criticized Gaga. Gaga wrote him a letter apparently. Queen members appreciate Gaga and collaborated with her twice. Michael Jackson apparently liked "Poker Face". So not every artist of legacies felt like Gaga was a threat to them. :staymad:

Michael apparently really liked her! It’s just a shame they never got to meet.

i think Bowie didn’t really vibe with her stuff but also why would he lmfao ns to Gaga but her art had basically nothing to do with a rock n roll guy whose music only got less glam the older he got. That said, I appreciate he never made a point of going out of his way to say he didn’t f with her stuff. He was very respectful of her fanaticism and I think that speaks a lot to his general character. He doesn’t need to lie and say she’s amazing and loves her, doesn’t need to drag either. Just real and respectful.

She sounded super bitter. I don't care what achievements you have - there is no reason to attack a young artist who clearly looks up to you. I love Gaga for not playing this sorta game before and after becoming a legend on her own.

Fun fact: I removed & unfollowed an old date because I came across him liking Grace Jones' drag :cheeky:

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

I mean, I could see why Grace would have those ideas, especially as someone who hadn't "bought in" to Gaga, so to speak. Was she harsh and c*nty about it? Of course, but that's Grace. I'm actually much more interested in hearing the reasons why she collaborated with Bey after similarly dragging her and what that says about Grace's  conviction on the matter.

Jackson even wanted Gaga to open for him on the This Is It tour, I think.

The only legend with taste who could see the future and wasn't threatened by her artistry, talent, and creativity. When you see someone special like that, you support them. You don't tear them down because you're jealous that a younger new thing is cool now (Madge, Bowie, etc.). I do understand the Madonna and Bowie comparisons, but if you're secure enough in your legendary status, you don't need to get pissy about Gaga wearing a lightning bolt as tribute or a fireworks bra lmao.

Completely agreed. In all fairness to Bowie, it seems he was always cordial to her and I don’t think he ever publicly disparaged her (though he never really publicly embraced her either).

i can get what she’s saying but i think to disparage a young woman that clearly means well at the start of her career as a much older person is so ****ing weird and nasty to me. she was acting like a 23 year old girl who was simply inspired by that one hooded thing she wore was the worst thing in the world. its not like grace jones is the most influential unique artist herself, everyone pulls from the same pool of references

Mhmm! It was all scheduled and stuff, too, since the tour was only weeks away from happening
