crazygato 535 Posted yesterday at 08:20 AM Share Posted yesterday at 08:20 AM Hello everyone ! I’ve always thought that Gaga sped thru her eras so quickly. When the BTW era had started she was STILL on the previous álbums’ tour! She couldnt catch a break! I admired that about her but it obviously caused problems later on. I was wondering how the BTW era would have fared if it started later, like the second half of 2011? I really wish she had taken at least a 3 month break between TFM and BTW. TFM ball should have ended March/April 2011. Then take a 2/3 month break until June and start the BTW era. Also another thing, instead of hyping up the title track she should have surprise reléase it in June 2011. With the album out in September 2011. What do you guys think? How would it have fared? Would Gaga had agreed to this? I just think her team really wanted to rinse her dry and what happened was a total destruction of her body and maybe even mind. Head Empty 25,282
The thing is that the period between the Alejandro music video and the release of Born This Way was considered a HUGE drought . It was 7 months. Gaga was actively touring all over the world and did her iconic VMA performance in that period as well. Yet the fanbase (as well as the GP) was HUNGRY for new material. At that time, she WAS culture. Sure, songs that have come after like Shallow or DWAS have done better, but I still believe that Gaga in 2009-2011 is her ultimate cultural peak. And it wasn't just external pressure that made her move fast. She knew she had a unique opportunity on her hands. Initially, Marry The Night was supposed to be the lead single. She changed it to BTW because she KNEW that the lead of her next album would become a hit, regardless of what song it would be. So it was the opportune time to release a song with a powerful message. Obviously she still would've been fine if she had waited a few more months, but with the level of blind ambition she had back then I don't think taking a break was even a consideration - for better or worse.
Bronco 12,269
I'm a firm believer that when an act has their first BIG album - which isn't always a debut - that they need to strike quick for the 2nd album. Partly to capitalise on the momentum so as to cultivate longevity. But also, because I think content droughts after after that 1st peak can lead to people overhyping the follow up album. Which is partly why I think there's a sophomore album curse. So much pressure gets put on the follow up, that if you wait too long it becomes impossible to meet or exceed expectations. So I think Gaga played it perfectly between TFM and BTW.
