Real talk, on my first listen of Mayhem from front to back, LoveDrug goddamn blew me away and it was the first song I replayed. The lyrics are so damn relatable.

"If I could bear it on my own I wouldn't try so hard to numb what's left behind"

That lyric alone might be one of my favorites in her entire discography :bradley:

And I'm always a sucker for the songs that have that consistently pounding rhythm. Teeth, Electric Chapel, ARTPOP, Perfect Illusion, those songs where the kick drum is the star and all other instruments mold around it. It's like...idk, being hypnotized by a metronome :bradley:

It is THE song :bradley:

Absolutely NOT. But the song grew on me after experiencing it live. It's still one of her weakest on the albums and too generic for my taste.

👯‍♀️

My plan for first album listen was to go through the entire thing- from beginning to end- soaking it in, & then start it all over.

I was tempted to replay Garden Of Eden, tempted to replay Perfect Celebrity, tempted to replay Vanish Into You..

but I couldn't wait with LovedRug 🔂

I like LoveDrug but there are better tracks on the album, both by song itself and meaning. The meaning is so basic it's boring sorry :reductive:

I think of this song a metaphor for addiction.

Like if the LoveDrug is some other substance than love with a human.

It's actually a pretty good take on the experience of addiction in my opinion.

I mean the chorus is dead on:

"

I know this time
I won't escape these thoughts in my head
I need you tonight
But I'm gonna fight the feeling instead

I don't wanna feel
I don't wanna cry
So I'm gonna dance until I feel alright
I just need a dose of the right stuff
I just need a hit of your lovedrug

"

Well duh, I guess that's the concept. The song is very literally about addiction AND love

It's always felt like it's about codependence to me. Kind of a tie in to the more toxic or unhealthy side of Vanish Into You.

Yes! I hear that in the song, too. Like an "oooops this has gone too far, and here we are bound together"

Definitely a "I feel like I can't be ok without you but I know I have to learn how to" :bradley:

Nine Inch Heels

It’s one of my least favorites in fact :ohwell: I don’t hate it but imo it doesn’t close to the first 7 tracks, including CSTH

Born This Way

It's really up there, especially after the Mayhem Ball performances.
