The meltdowns regarding TEOG were solely generated by the fact we'd been teased something much bigger. The video itself has nothing wrong and is actually beautiful and memorable, and people are only now seeing this because their stan expectations of 2011 are far behind and forgotten. It's always a matter of expecting too much and setting ourselves up for disappointment. This time though, y'all really did this on your own. Hopefully it doesn't take us 15 years to appreciate this video for what it is.

There’s definitely a sort of acknowledgment/homage to small theatre sets. 

The same sort of campy niche productions you see in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the fan following it creates. Not sure what people expected, but life is filled with disappointments — many self inflicted!

i for one went into the video with zero expectations and came away pleasantly surprised.  it's quintessential tim burton, plain and simple.  this coming from a long life fan of his work.  i'd love to see the both of them collab again in the future.

At this point it's obviously a matter of y'all having actually no idea what makes a Tim Burton film a Tim Burton film. Blame it on yourselves though, not on the artists.

It might be different from what she usually does but it's not different from what anyone else is doing ... Miley Cyrus's something beautiful is filled with videos like this.

I couldn't care less whether people like or dislike a music video, what I find annoying is the flood of unfair and uninformed criticism.

This thread is literally asking if a director failed to deliver... this isn't about personal opinion.

Legit. This thread is asking for people's opinions and y'all are fighting like crazy... but I guess we should've expected that. The song & video are supposed to be a cute moment for Wednesday and Gaga (she wrote the song specifically for this show) as we near Halloween. To that end, I think she succeeded. 

I'm 100% sure the video would be different if Burton were hired to do Abracadabra, GOE, or any other Mayhem track. I'm glad she's opened that relationship with him though.

I have no clue who that Tim Burton guy is . But yes, I DO feel that the video falls short of its potential. What we have here is a catchy disco song with a Halloween vibe and the setting is exceptional, the choreo is otherworldly, the makeups are unparalleled, the intro sends shivers down my spine. I expect a horror movie plot here with Gaga being chased by the haunted dolls or something. I mean, the song is even more halloween-y than Disease.

There's a difference between asking if you enjoyed a video or not, or if you think a director delivered or not. If you fail to see the difference, or pretend to for the sake of having the last word in an argument, then I don't know what to tell you.

So what’s wrong with asking if people expected more from Tim Burton?

Tim Burton and Lady Gaga collaboration spiked an expectation in people, and I’m asking if Tim Burton delivered this expectation or not.
 

It’s not about liking the video or not. One may didn’t like the video and say I think Tim Burton did his job there was nothing wrong with him. I specifically mention that only based on Tim Burton.

Everyone's entitled to their opinions when it comes to art, or anything really, but to question a director's ability to deliver at his job is puzzling. How many films have any of you directed?

He's an artist, so is Gaga, and they're both household names in their respective fields. They know what they're doing, and this is what they chose to deliver. Feel free to enjoy it or be disappointed, but questioning their abilities is just disrespectful. If you think you know better than the artist how they should do their art: no you don't, you should take several seats and remind yourself who's the artist and who's the audience.
